Amhlaoibh na Dùnphris (born 27 April 1976) is a Caldish politician who served as the Taoiseach of Caldia in 2019. He is the shortest serving taoiseach in the office's history, having held the position for just 53 days.

Biography

Born in 1952 Dún Beag, Amhlaoibh na Dùnphris attended primary, secondary, and tertiary school in County Folcthagh before studying business at the University of Invertwinc. He worked for a number of private investment firms until he stood in the 1987 election. He continues to reside in his native County Folcthagh. He is married and has two children.

Political career

He was elected to represent the Folcthagh West constituency in the 1987 general election. A staunch supporter of Patricia Flowers, na Dùnphris supported her government in votes and named her as his leading political inspiration. He held onto his constituency seat until the 2019 election, representing it for over 30 years. For most of that period, he was a little known legislator. He was part of a group of right-wing lawmakers committed to Flowers' ideals who called themselves the February Group. He encouraged these legislators to support Proin Casarnach. This later elevated na Dùnphris to the office of Minister of Finance.

He served as Minister of Finance from May 2018 until February 2019. na Dùnphris was known for his proposed spending cuts. earing the nickname "Mister Scissors" from his critics. He became Tánaiste after the Centre Party and Caldish Democrats pulled out of the governing coalition.

After Casarnach was removed from his office by Kenneth IV, na Dùnphris was appointed as taoiseach. He dissolved the Comhthionól Náisiúnta and called a snap election for 18 February 2019. He led the Liberty Party to a defeat in the election, the party's worst ever electoral performance. He lost his seat at the election and retired from politics.

Since leaving politics, na Dùnphris has returned to the private sector.
