House of Angechet

Lofar II named Karl V as his heir in his will, directly bypassing his brothers and overruling the laws of succession. The house takes its name from Wotan Angechet, Count of Ambreux, the father of Karl. The name Angechet was not actually used as a surname until Karl IX.

Disputed claiment

There is some evidence that Katherine II of Horteny may have been queen in 1568, between her father Karl and her son Marten, although she was not crowned.
