The ACS-22 Manta (Airborne Counter-Submarine) is a long-range ASW rocket with secondary capabilities against surface ships. Drawing from earlier Cold War designs, the Manta is designed to help defeat the threat of SSK's, SSP's and SSN's.

Variants

  • ACS-22T - Ground launched
  • ACS-22S - Submarine launched
  • ACS-22-Su - Surface ship launched

The ACS-22u serves as the primary armament of the Roucharde Class Frigate and can also be deployed from the Mk-41 VLS system on the Valízeno Class Cruiser and D'Andalucía Class Destroyer. It is as deployed from an SCU-10 VLS cell on the top of the Mirage Class Submarine as the ACS-22S. It can be fitted to the same VLS system on the Type-60 SSP and Type-64 SSN, however this configuration has not yet been put into action. When deployed from a ship, the ACS-22Su is carried and fired from a dual, reloadable canister. The ground-based ACS-22T is mounted on a TEL carrying three missiles a piece, which receives commands from a seperate vehicle unit in coordination with GPS and sonar data.

Warhead

The ACS-22 Manta is armed with a specially made torpedo, the Pu-82, which is only in use as the warhead of this missile. It weighs roughly 460kg, with a total of 51kg's of explosives (equivalent to 80kg TNT). This torpedo can strike targets as deep as 600m bellow the surface as far away as 10km from the impact point, and is designed with a tandem shape charge to effectively penetrate the hulls of enemy submarines.
