The League of Oil Producing States (LOPS) was an intergovernmental organisation intended to promote coordination and the sharing of technology among the oil producing nations of the world. It was established on 12 September 1976 in response to disruptions in the international oil market caused by the 1975 Irvadistan War. The organization also served as an information source for statistics on the international oil market and related industries. Its mission evolved to focus on the "3Es" of energy policy: export, energy security, and economic development. It was criticized for working to advance the petroleum industry as global emissions resulted in climate change; LOPS advisers at times worked against the promotion of renewable energy.
