The Duchy of Yukino (KS: 雪乃公国, Yukino-kōkoku) is a country that is part of the confederal kingdom of Komashi. It is bordered by Izanaya and Mako to the west, to the east by Maikaze, to the south by Asura, and the Bay of Izanaya to the north. It has a population of 19.9 million as of 2020. Colloquially called Yukino, the country sits in the very end of the Yukino River drainage basin, and the state is named after the river. Most of the state is flatland, except for the Zhelenskey Hills to the south, which is a large group of hilly terrain from southern Yukino to Asura.
Yukino was a large, independent state in the early years of Komashi's history, and one of the most thriving states in the confederation's early years. Rising from the Domain of Chōsuke's remnants after the inevitable self-destruction of Komashi's domains during the Domain Wars, the modern state was founded in the same town by Hakure no Yukino, the patriarchial founder of the Royal House and Monarchy of Yukino.
In the 18th century, the royal family moved from Chōsuke to Naganawa, a small fishing village at the mouth of the Yukino River. The construction of the old Yukino Castle signified the status of Naganawa as the royal capital of the state. At the same time, Yukino joined the First Confederacy of Komashi, in which it became the duchy as it is today. The capital continuously flourished, from a small fishing village into a bustling city of its time.
By the early 20th century, Yukino had flourished greatly. Naganawa city and its localities were re-arranged to form the Yukino River Conurbation in 1918, becoming Komashi's largest city.
