The Besmenian Republic (Besmenian: Besmenische Republik) was short lived Besmenian state that emerged from the Besmenian Empire after the West Besmenian Revolution in 1948 when Rudolf Bötte proclaimed the republic on June 9, 1948.
The republic was shaped by the West Besmenian economic crisis which had lasted since 1963. During this time, the Latin solidus was the official currency. Many cities like Melmingia or St. Butz used a local currency too. With the currency treaty of the Besmenian Union, which was signed on March 20, 1967, the East Besmenian Spero became on April 1 the official currency.
The Besmenian Republic was already considered the poorest country of Belisaria during its existence. This gave the republic the nickname "New Old East Besmenia", based on the fact that East Besmenia also had economic problems in the first years of its existence.
