There is one patrol approximately per 250 inhabitants. Each patrol is a group of boys of ages 10 to 14 (lower patrol) and 14 to 18 (upper patrol). Four patrols, two of each lower and upper patrols, make up a troop. Smaller villages combine with surrounding villages to form patrols of the appropriate size and composition. Each patrol is commanded by a corporal. He is assisted by a lance corporal. When a boy leaves middle schooling, he also „graduates” from the lower patrol into the upper patrol.
