The Mesogeian Imperial family (Greek: Μεσογειακή αυτοκρατορική οικογένεια) comprises Empress Elena II, and her relations, collectively making up the members of the Imperial house of Rhomaios-Troadinos.

Since 1840 all male-line descendants of Emperor Michael XIV and Empress Theodora III, are considered to be members of the Imperial house by right. Currently the children and male-line grandchildren of the reigning monarch, and previous monarchs, the children of the eldest son of the Despot and all of the current or widowed consorts of previous monarchs are entitled to the style of His or Her Imperial Highness.

Titles and styles

The Titles and styles of the Imperial Family are as follows:

  • The reigning sovereign is The Emperor or The Empress, along with all other titles associated with the crown or belonging to the Imperial house. They are styled His or Her Imperial Celestial Majesty, or simply His or Her Majesty, both of which are used interchangeably
  • The Dowager Empress, that is the widowed consort of a reigning monarch is titled Basilometor ("Empress Mother") regardless if she is the mother of the reigning monarch or not. The traditional tile of Padishah Begum, is principle title of the senior female at court, denoting her unique position as the First Lady of the Empire, both of which afford her the style of Her Imperial Majesty.
  • The Emperor's chief wife is the Empress Consort, bearing the title of Empress, (known as Basilissa, Augusta or Banbishn, with the style of Her Imperial Majesty or Her Majesty.
  • All Imperial consorts or secondary wives of a reigning Emperor bear the title of Imperial Consort (known as Shahbanu or Begum Sahiba, with the style of Her Imperial Highness
  • Imperial Concubines to the Emperor bear the title of Banu/Begum, with the style of Her Serene Highness
  • The Heir to the throne bears the title of Despot of Morea along with all other titles associated with the office, including the rank of Kaisar or Co-Emperor in some cases. With the style of His Imperial Highness
  • The wife of the heir apparent or heir presumptive bears the title Despotissa or Kaisarissa in some cases, with the style of Her Imperial Highness.
  • All other children of the monarch who are not the heir to the throne, bear the title of Grand Prince or Grand Princess of Mesogeia (Mega Basilopoulos/Mega Basilopoula)
  • The eldest daughter of the monarch is titled Madame Imperiale (Basilopoula Porphyrogenita) when available, for life, and styled as Her Imperial Highness
  • All legitimate children of a reigning emperor are entitled to use the dignity of a Porphyrogenitus or Porphyrogenita, literally meaning an imperial prince or princess. The title of Grand Prince or Grand Princess usually with the territorial designation of Mesogeia is granted for life, passing through the male blood line only. The eldest daughter of the monarch is known as Madame Imperiale but is ranked as Grand Princess. Upon marriage a monarchs sons and daughters discard the territorial designation of Mesogeia and are granted peerages, being known as Grand Prince XXXX, followed by their peerage. In the case of daughters upon marriage they assume the territorial designation of their husband, while keeping the dignity of an Grand Princess, if the husband has no title, a Grand Princess will continue to use the territorial designation Grand Princess of Mesogeia
  • Spouses of the monarchs children are entitled to use any or all styles or titles bestowed on their royal counterparts. Usually the wives of a Grand Prince have the title of Grand Princess and the style of Her Imperial Highness, along with the equivalent of her husband's title (ie: Duchess, Countess, etc.).
  • The eldest brother of the Emperor is titled Sebastokrator, with the style of His Imperial Highness.
  • The Grandchildren of reigning emperors, past and present are entitled to the dignity of Sebastos or Sebaste for females, styled His or Her Imperial Highness for male-line descendants and His or Her Serene Highness for female-line descendants.
  • Distant members of the Imperial family, far removed from the throne are entitled to the dignity afforded to Princes of the blood (Nobillisimus/Nobelissima) due to their most noble blood, They are styled His or Her Serene Highness
  • The acknowledged offspring of concubines bear the title of Igemon/Igemonis, with the style of His or Her Highness
