Operational history
Variants
- CAC F.701/74: Prototype variant, 2 constructed.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 1: Initial production variant based on the F.701. Compared to the 701 larger wings and tailfins and incorporates a fully digital fly-by-wire system with quadruple redundancy.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 2: Initial two seater variant.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 3: Original TBA radar replaced with upgraded TBA radar.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 4: Comprehensive avionics upgrades, addition of self-protection jammer. A synthetic aperture ground mapping radar enables the pilot to locate targets in poor visibility conditions.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 5: Two seater variant of Mk. 4.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 6: Variant adding thermal navigation pods, the forward looking infrared array targeting pod, night vision goggles, and two full-color (formerly monochrome) multi-function display (MFDs) and a color moving map.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 7: Two seater variant of Mk. 6.
- CAC F/R-7 Swiftlet Mk. 8: Recon-equipped variant with TBA electro-optical sensor package that includes a sensor pod and equipment mounted in the place of the M61 cannon.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 7: Two seater variant of Mk. 6.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 9: Includes enhanced performance engine, providing approximately 10% more maximum static thrust than the standard engine.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 10: Mk. 10 variant added a designator/ranger laser, allowing it to self-mark targets.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 11: Upgraded targeting package adds the ability to strike targets designated by lasers from other aircraft.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 10: Mk. 10 variant added a designator/ranger laser, allowing it to self-mark targets.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 12: Comprehensive overhaul of aircraft including a reconstructed airframe which is 25% larger, large rectangular intakes, and greatly upgraded engines. This variant is based off the Arcadian TBA and is also known as the Super Swiftlet.
- CAC F/F-7B Swiftlet Mk. 13: Two Seater variant of the Mk. 12.
- CAC F/E-7B Swiftlet Mk. 14: Super Swiftlet outfitted for electrionic warfare role, see TBA.
- CAC F/F-7 Swiftlet Mk. 15: Upgraded with conformal fuel tanks, an upgraded AESA radar, and IRST pod.
- CAC F/F-7B Swiftlet Mk. 13: Two Seater variant of the Mk. 12.
