The Tiomanta-class was a class of three aircraft carriers built for Royal Ossorian Navy starting in 1961. The class comprised of the ships Tiomanta, Dána, Éadulangach, and Teasaí.
Design
General characteristics
The Tiomanta-class ships had an overall length of 342 m, a beam of 41 meters at the waterline and 79 meters at the extremities, and a draught of 12 m. She displaced 61,000 t at standard load. Each of the ship's four sets of geared steam turbines drove one 5-bladed propeller and were powered by 8 nuclear reactors and were rated at 280,000 shaft horsepower. This gave the Tiomanta-class a speed of approximately 34 knots.
Flight deck and hangar
The Tiomanta-class ships had an armored flight deck which was 342 m long. The class was fitted with an enclosed hangar, an angled flight deck, arrestor gear, and four compressed steam catapults. Four deck-edge elevators (three portside and one starbord) allowed aircraft to be transferred between the hangar and the flight deck. The ships' aircraft capacity was rated at 90 aircraft, but the typical flight group consisted of no more than 84 aircraft. The ships' crew totaled 5,800 officers and ratings.
