Before politics, he was a primary school teacher and teachers union leader in Þatan, where he faced persecution and harassment from the ruling authoritarian Kjedorate regime. He was a key leader of the Socialist Democracy Movement during the 1978 Seketese Revolution and would be elected as Seketan's first, and to date longest serving, democratically elected leader.
