Richard I (18 October 928 - 6 February 990) was Holy Roman Emperor from 979 until his death. He was the first King and first Emperor of the House of Hohgarton. Prior to his accession, he was Duke of Hanover-Brunswick from 972 to 975, and King of Germany from 975. In addition to being Holy Roman Emperor, he was also King of Germany, Grand Duke of Swabia, Upper and Lower Lorraine, Saxony, Carinthia, Bavaria, and Sorbia, and Duke of Hanover and Margrave of Nordgau, as well as Count of Hanover, Bruchausen, Minden, Hoya, and Oldenburg. Noted as a Fearless Planner and Unpredictable Economist.
