PVRS-55 Luna (Serbian: ПВРС-55 Луна) (PVRS: Protiv-Vazduhoplovni Raketni Sistem / Anti-Air Rocket System) is the medium-range Surface-to-air missile system developed by Nikolian Military Technical Institute Katovice.
Luna system battery
There are two main variants of the Luna system battery:
- Luna-L1 battery with one radar vehicle and up to 4 launchers with 32 small missiles each. This battery formation serves against tactical UAV's, ARM's, smart bombs and cruise missiles.
- Luna-VNB multi-purpose platform, which consists of the Luna command module LKM-55, up to two LRM-55 Luna Radar modules, one relay station and up to eight PVRS-55 Luna launchers with 12 rockets each.
LKM-55 Command module
The LKM-55 Command module is the "core" of the Luna system from which the whole system is operated. The command module is in direct contact with the two multi-purpose radars, launchers and also with "higher instances" such as Air Force command, radars with better capabilities, AWACS, et cetera. The command module can process and track up to 200 individual targets and can communicate with the launchers at the distance up to 5km.
LRM-55 multi-purpose radar
The LRM-55 is multi-purpose Active electronically scanned array radar with 360° of coverage. The radar operates fully automatically and can track up to 100 individual targets, while the total number of targets it can hand to launch module is 8. Maximum number of missiles the system can launch at 8 individual targets, and remain locked to them is limited to 16. The rotational speed of the antenna is 40rpm.
