The Exponential-Polarussians, also known as Ex-Pols, are a small ethnic group in the country of Polarus. They are descendants of settlers from the Empire of Exponent, who arrived in Polarus after the Polarussian Crusade of the mid-14th century. Today, Exponential-Polarussians make up about 6% of the population of Polarus.
Culture and Religion
Exponential-Polarussians are predominantly Roman Catholic, and their culture reflects this religious heritage. They have their own distinct customs, foods, and music, and celebrate several religious holidays throughout the year. Their language is a mix of Latin and Polaran, with most Ex-Pols speaking both languages, with some unique regional variations.
Geographical Distribution
The majority of Exponential-Polarussians live in the capital city of Jandara, as well as the city of Zulheina. There are also some small, mostly Exponential towns scattered throughout the country. While they are a minority in Polarus, Exponential-Polarussians have had a significant impact on the country's culture and history.
History
After the Polarussian Crusade, Exponential settlers arrived in Polarus and established a presence in the country. Over time, they became integrated into the Polarussian society, adopting many of the local customs and traditions. However, they retained their Catholic faith and distinct culture.
In the late 19th century, tensions between the Exponential-Polarussians and the Polarans began to rise due to cultural and religious differences. In 1896, a series of violent uprisings broke out across Polarus, led by Polaran nationalists who wanted to rid the country of Exponential influence. These uprisings caused many Exponential-Polarussians to flee the country, seeking refuge in Exponent and other neighboring states. The exodus was a major turning point in the history of Polarus, as it significantly reduced the Exponential-Polarussian population and altered the country's demographics.
Following the exodus, the Exponential-Polarussian population continued to decline in Polarus. This trend accelerated after the collapse of the Empire of Exponent in 1996. With no central authority to protect them, many Exponential-Polarussians felt increasingly marginalized and unsafe in Polarus. As a result, a second wave of emigration occurred, with many Exponential-Polarussians leaving the country for the Blackhelm Confederacy, which was the successor state to the Empire of Exponent.
Today, the Exponential-Polarussian community in Polarus is small and concentrated mainly in the cities of Jandara and Zulheina, as well as in some small towns. Most Exponential-Polarussians are Roman Catholic and speak a dialect of the Exponential language. While their numbers may be small, the Exponential-Polarussian community has played an important role in shaping the cultural and linguistic diversity of Polarus, and their legacy continues to be felt to this day.
