The emblem takes inspiration from the [[Riamo#Heraldry|federal school]] of Riamese heraldry. It features as its central element a traditional Freician qaba shield divided into three quarters. In the first quarter is a white star, called the Kaldaz Star, on a red field, which is a traditional symbol of Freice. It is said that the Kaldaz Star would guide fisherman to fish and then back to land, offering good luck and safety. In the second quarter is a tree on a white field, representing the importance of nature and the central role of environmental stewardship in Freician culture. ==History==
Under the Government of Freice Act 1969, which established Freician self-government, the island is entitled to have its own regional emblem. Upon self-government, the coat of arms used by the colonial authorities continued to be used until a new design could be adopted. Joseph Ardalle, the Governor of the Riamese Heraldic Authority, formally granted the island's first emblem on July 10, 1972 and was adopted by the Assembly of Delegates on August 27, 1972.
 
The General Kiuva voted to adopt an amended design in September 2022, maintaining the Qaba shield and wreath but with the addition of the national motto and a changed blazon. It was formally adopted on 5 September 2022 when [[Keomoru'lu]] [[Aniara Neileka]] and [[Speaker of the General Kiuva]] Siega Pokigna granted assent to the design law.

Although the emblem of the nation, the constitution defines it as a government symbol:

This regulation was carried over from the previous constitution. Use of the emblem without government permission is illegal.
