National anthem of Espalia
LyricsKare Asikka, 1956
MusicSotiyalo Vixtari

Müilai kuulu Espalexelek (Espalian: 未來 属ꡟ 慖ꡠꡙꡠꡁ, meaning 'The Future Belongs to Espalia) is the national anthem of Espalia. Commissioned by the military junta led by Colonel Kostia Kekko to celebrate the May Revolution in 1956, it became the national anthem of Espalia in following the ratification of the Constitution of 1957 on 25 November 1957. It replaced Nouskaxën Espalexen poigat, the previous anthem used during the First Republic of Espalia.

History

The first national anthem of Espalia was Üünen laulu, written and composed in 1875. It was adopted as the official anthem of the Kingdom of Espalia in 1899, although by that point it had been used as the unofficial anthem for years. The song was considered long-winded by many, and its lyrics only praised the King. After the Republican Revolution of 1931, Üünen laulu was swiftly discarded and replaced with Nouskaxën Espalexen poigat, a traditional military march with new lyrics.

Immediately after the May Revolution of 1955, Nouskaxën Espalexen poigat remained the official anthem. However, Colonel Kostia Kekko wanted a new anthem to celebrate the new single-party socialist state, and commissioned famous Espalian composer Sotiyalo Vixtari and writer Kare Asikka to create a new anthem. The pair created the new anthem in two weeks.

The song quickly became the de facto national anthem and was declared the official anthem in the Constitution of 1957. Üünen laulu and Nouskaxën Espalexen poigat are still used by Espalians abroad, depending on their political sympathies. Üünen laulu is banned in Espalia, while Nouskaxën Espalexen poigat is still used as a military march, albeit without lyrics.
