History

Collapse (76 BC - 0 AC)

Around 76 BC (Before Collapse), political division and the rise of aggressive and/or xenophobic governments began to rise, starting what's known as the Collapse Period. This period was riddled with tensions, war, and polarization. Some people who saw the direction things were headed to hunkered down and prepared for the apocalypse. At 30 BC, the world plunged into nuclear war and everyone but those in the bunkers died in the blasts, or from the radiation. They waited in the bunkers for a long time. The exact amount of time is not, and perhaps will never be known, but what is known is that most of the bunkers survived the war and the radiation that came after. The time at which the majority of bunkers opened back up was logged as 0 AC (After Collapse).

The Expansion Period (0 AC - 13 AC)

After the bunkers opened, people set out to re-establish themselves, and find others. Old wounds reopened, and the world found itself at war again at 4 AC. A set of people from a bunker on the northern end of the planet found themselves watching history repeat itself, and determined to stop it. This group consisted mainly of the descendants of veterans and cyber-soldiers, who described the horrors of war to their children in great detail. The group dubbed itself the Bystor Brotherhood and set to work. They armed themselves and quickly took most of the planet, recruiting many more soldiers and helpers along the way. Most people only had civilian weapons at the Collapse, whereas the Bystor had a military arsenal courtesy of their ancestors. By 13 AC, they had established themselves as a planetary government.

Resource Expansion (13 AC - 632 AC)

After the Bystor established themselves as a planetary government, they set out to reconstruct the planet from the destruction that the new wars had brought. This period of reconstruction lasted to around 146 AC. After reconstruction, the government shifted to a much more democratic state and focused on the advancement of technology. This was accompanied in part with a focus on military technology as well, in part due to the military roots of the Bystorian people. However, all these required resources which the planet was drained of long before the collapse. This need for resources resulted in the need for interplanetary, and later interstellar, expansion to fill the growing needs of the Bystorian people. Most civilizations that the Bystorians encountered were less advanced in tech and submitted and/or asked to be annexed by Bystoria, who obliged their requests. Eventually, Bystoria had effective control over their home universe by 488 AC.

Universal Spring (632 AC - 874 AC)

In 518 AC, a means of interuniversal travel was found, however, it was not used for fear of what may be found in other universes. However, after Bystoria was contacted by extraversal countries in 626 AC, exposure to such forces was seen as inescapable, and by 632, Bystoria had begun expanding into other universes. The takeover of the surrounding universes became easy, as Bystorian warp tech and overall advancement were so high that to travel across a universe was little more than trivial. By 700 AC, Bystoria established itself as a great power. However, this time period did not exclusively see glad tidings and expansion. Connor Emerson, the leader of Bystoria for centuries, kept alive by the many Bystorian biotechnologies. After Connor Emerson resigned, a man by the name of Fergie Glen was elected in Emerson's place. Fergie Glen was a sincere man, who had democratic and Bystorian values at heart. However, he ambitioned to aggressively spread this ideology to those he believed to be misguided. This was coupled with Bystoria being given leadership of the XIA. Glen sent an ultimatum to the nations of Datlof and Wunderlightia in response to their Xeno wars. They quickly gained the support of many allies, and the XIA backed out. However Glen, and therefore Bystoria, kept on, and started the Bystorian-Datlovian War.

Datlovian Period (874 AC - 1118 AC)

The Datlovian Period is known as the time period after the Bystorian-Datlovian War, where Bystoria was a puppet state of Datlof for a time, until being releeased with a Xenophobic government led by Zach Himmerman. During this period, the region plunged into the Great Interregional War. From this war came Squoosh, which became relevant much later. After that, Bystoria saw few events, until the assassination of Zach Himmerman by an Anacho-Leftist extremist. His assassination was followed by a period of instability until Zach Himmerman's Chief General Bernie Sanders took control of the government. He restabilized the country, however this resulted in him reforming the government to a leftist state to appease the Anarcho-Leftists, restoring the Bystorian government to its Pre-Datlovian state.

Renaiassance (1118 AC - 1356 AC)

The Bystorian Renaissance Period is the transition time between the previously corrupt government and the old ideology of leftist accelerationism. This was largely done to appease the large number of anarcho-leftists who threatened to rebel in the middle of the Jeffrian Cold War, which would have no doubt rallied support from the Jeffrians and cripple Bystoria. The government eventually caved and began adopting less authoritarian policy.

Migration and Collectivization (1405 AC - 1450 AC)

The end to the Jeffrian Cold War came with the full migration of Bystoria to territories near Kerbal Kind, an ally of Bystoria at the time. This was enabled by the widespread use of Squoosh and the doctrine of converting all matter to randomly-accessible squoosh, coupled with long-distance wormhole technology. This migration posed the need for organized collective action, ultimately resulting in a partial hivemind, where citizens can have their property temporarily liquidated for government purposes. Liquidation in this context means to utilize the property in question as squoosh, with control of it being taken.

Post-Collectivization Period (1450 - Present)

Post-Collectivization is the current era of Bystoria. This period has seen Bystoria drift from its former allies, including Kerbal Kind, and make allies with a new, undisclosed set of nations only known as members of the League of Freedom. This period has also seen the return of Connor Emerson from the dead, in a strange resurrection event incited by Tuesday, as well as the rise of a new diplomatic representative for Bystoria, Yeruman.

Politics and Government

Military

The Bystorian Military is where most technological projects begin, and collaborates heavily with the Bystorian R&D teams. It is comprised mainly of a squoosh, including the Squoosh Wall.
