Early life
Military service
Danylo would be conscripted in May 1953 upon reaching the age of 18, initially attracted by the prospect of becoming a pilot, was instead convinced by his father to join the medical corps of the army, as Palij desired to become a doctor after his 2 years of service. The 100 Day War would explode in March 1955, when North Vinalian forces pre emptively attacked South Vinalia mainly in the Voly Na heights surrounding Nazica. The 31st Infantry Division remained in Norelinsk throughout March facing little combat until the 19th of April Southern offensive that saw an attempted Southern encirclement of Norelinsk launched. Palij was involved during the battle of Norelinsk and was one of the units trapped in Norelinsk throughout April, and May until Northern forces broke through the 3rd of June. Palij and the man both survived, Palij was transported first to a field hospital then to a Chervona hospital were he had surgery.
Palij would recover from the surgery but would not see combat again as the war ended a couple days later on the 10th of June. Palij was awarded the Red Star for being wounded, and the Union Cross for his bravery. He participated in the September 1st Independence parade, after which having served past his conscripted requirements left the army, having lost interest in continuing his officer studies, or his career in the army.
Studying in Swetania
As part of a Swetanian effort to rebuild North Vinalia it offered access to Swetanian universities for anyone wishing to study, Palij was personally invited to attend Swetapolis University to study medicine based on his awards and military service, Palij accepted and moved to Swetania after leaving the army. Upon arriving in Swetania Palij remarked at the beauty and progress the Swetanians had made stating the future to be in the country, upon learning of this Swetanian authorities made Palij a contributor to local newspapers, he was also contacted to become a foreign correspondent of the Chervona Star in Swetania a position he agreed to.
Palij would become interested in politics and joined the Vinalian-Swetanian Committee for Advancement in the University of Swetapolis, where he would climb to become it's president in 1958. Palij had average grades, and concerns over whether he would sufficiently finish his studies were raised by the North Vinalian embassy in Swetania, Palij was moved by such interest and promptly left his position as foreign correspondent to the Chervona Star, graduating in 1959 with above average grades, and finishing his degree satisfactory. Palij would travel to Chistovodia in the summer of 1959, in a Vinalian sponsored cultural exchange, during this he would meet his first wife the Chistovodian-Vinalian Palana Khvylov a fellow doctor. Palij would return to Swetania working for the Red Star once more, he would be offered in September 1959 an opportunity to return to Chervona to work as a contributor, he was also offered an opportunity to study in the University of Chervona. He would accept the position of contributor.

During this time he would meet Palana once more which was working in Chervona as a doctor after having been sent in a humanitarian Chistovodian mission, they would both promptly marry the 29th of December 1959. Upon returning Palij would establish the New Nation Party, citing it's intention on creating a Vinalian version of the Ideologisierung from Swetania.
