Peter is an Besmenian sitcom television series that originally aired on BRF 1 from September 24, 1978 to March 22, 1985. The series was created by Bernhard Krause. The show takes place in Laitstadt and is about the life of the postman Peter Köhler and his friends.
The show was extremely successful during its original run and it still proves very popular in reruns.

In many episodes, Peter seems a bit clumsy and quirky. In previous episodes he also appeared a bit shy. In the final episode, he married Vanessa. Until 1967, Peter lived in West Besmenia. His parents were killed in the West Besmenian Revolution.

- Ulf von Könlenz as Mr. Jäger: Mr. Jäger is the boss of Peter and Theodor. He is mostly mean and hateful to his employees. Mr. Jäger is a member of the Besmenian People's Party. He is also a great admirer of Robert Gleitzmann. A large picture of Gleitzmann hangs in his office, he quotes him frequently, and he punishes those of his employees who makes fun of Gleitzmann. His first name is never mentioned in the series.
- Ralph Tranik as Markus Busch: Markus Busch is the nephew of Vanessa and the son of her sister. Similar to Peter, Markus is a bit quirky and shy.

Syndication
After the series was cancelled in 1985, reruns ran on BRF 1 until 1990. From 1990 to 1998, reruns were seen on BRF 2. From 2002 to 2008 the series ran in the afternoon program of VINCTV. The series last ran from 2010 to 2015 on BRF Gold.
