Each couple is scored by a panel of judges. The series premiered in 2007. The format of the show consists of a celebrity paired with a professional dancer. Each couple performs predetermined dances and competes against the others for judges' points. The bottom two pairs, determined by score, will be called out with one of them being eliminated depending on whose score is lower. However, should there be a tie between the bottom pairs, it is now up to the audience on which of the bottom pairs should be eliminated.

He would then begin to help host Get Up and Dance at the age of 32 in 2008. Three years later, he would then compete from 2010-2014, winning five more competitions (out of seven), bringing his total to 25 wins before retiring from dance competitions. Rhys' mentor from a young age was Martin Botelho, who would recommend D'Aquila for the hosting job when he retired. After 12 years, he chose to step down after Season 28.

Get Up and Dance is a Vitosian dance contest on EBTV. Celebrities partner with professional dancers to compete in mainly ballroom and Latin dance.
