The Verdean Armed Forces has a rank structure similar to those of other Meridonian nations with officers and enlisted. Unlike other nations however, some ranks are distinguished by whether or not the holder is a conscript. Noteworthy among these is the notion of a "conscript officer", an officer who is granted a commissioned rank as a result of their technical skills upon enrollment in the National Service, but are denied positions of authority over others to the greatest extent possible. Such conscript officers will, upon completion of their National Service will be put through Officer Training School to learn the techniques of leadership to serve and granted the lowest Professional Commissioned Rank upon completion of OTC. All Verdean ranks can be rated on a set of universal grades indicated by Verdean laws setting the pay of all soldiers in the Verdean Armed Forces.
