During the 15th and 16th centuries Namdatka's eastern regions, especially around the city of Lwhang Tenchwa, existed a monarchy that grew out of the ancient Gyeltshen Dynasty that ruled over the realm it called Tsheringa. The land was arid and dry, leading to a majority of the population being situated around the Penden River in settlements around Lwhang Tenchwa. The Rai Monarchy ruled this kingdom with an iron-fist, however it flourished in comparison to the eastern regions at the time, which were under the subjugation of [[Mahana]]. | |||
The monarchy continued its existence up until the foundation of Namdatka in 1780, where they joined the Union of Namdatka in exchange for Namdatka taking up the Rai Monarchy. Rai Monarchal Period
During the 15th and 16th centuries Namdatka's eastern regions, especially around the city of Lwhang Tenchwa, existed a monarchy that grew out of the ancient Gyeltshen Dynasty that ruled over the realm it called Tsheringa. This monarchy made claim to an area of around 98,000 km2, containing around 90,000 people at the time. War for Independence
The end of the 18th century was a time of great religious struggle in neighbouring Mahana. A movement arose with the native Namdatkan people group living in Mahana. This eventually led to a diplomatic feedback loop, which slowly turned into an escalated conflict.
The revolution began on the 6th May 1780, with uprising beginning in the city of Khasa. Government
In accordance with the 1989 constitution, which is considered to be the foundation of the modern Namdatkan state, the country is a constitutional monarchy, although one with a complex traditional system with the Tsongkhapa exerting significant levels of power and authority. Namdatka has had a Tsongkhapa (the monarch) since it's days of independence from Mahana, with individually city-states and kingdoms having a Tsongkhapa long before. In 1989 a new reformed parliament was formed with an elected Lyonchhen (President) being elected into office to serve under the monarch as an advisor. Prior to this Namdatka was an absolute monarchy in which it's Tsongkhapa held all political authority, with backing from nobles and councils that ruled over parts of the land. The constitution limited the power of Namdatka's Tsongkhapa, however the position still holds the most political power. The current Tsongkhapa of Namdatka is Thsering I, and the current Lyonchhen is Kundang Ladakh. Namdatka has a unique governmental system and customs due to it's isolation from western cultures. They retain traditional names and expect international relations to use them.
Executive power is exercised by the Council of the Bold which is headed by the Lyonchhen. Legislative power is vested in both the general government and the National Tshogdu. The legal system originates from the ancient Tsi Yag system of the plateauan nomads, with the modern version taking some influence from the Mahanan system.
Foreign Relations
Namdatka restricts it's interaction with foreign powers, limiting itself to mostly Oriental states and the Assembled Nations. Despite this fact, they have been known to contribute to AN Peacekeeping operations alongside neighbouring Mahana.
Relations with Mahana have changed over the years, with recent times seeing a steady decline again in the relationship between the nations. In the 19th century, Namdatka was a part of the Kingdom of Mahana before fighting for it's independence. Since then, positive relations have been maintained between the two states, for the most part. Mahana, under Prajeeta II, sent soldiers into Namdatka following the 1914 Earthquake which greatly helped with the efforts due to Namdatka's outdated military. The Tsongkhapa was one of the few to endorse the Misra Dynasty in the late 20th century, with his support remaining up until the civil war. In 1999, Mahana and Namdatka signed a treaty of friendship. In April 2023, Mahana and Namdatka began to tighten border restrictions as the 2023 Namdatkan Refugee Crisis had a large number of native Namdatkans fleeing to Mahana. This has lead to the Tsongkhapa condemning Mahanan Prime-Minister Ranju Bastola.
They retain positive relations with Mekabiri, who supported them in the war for independence against the Mahanans. Since then they have kept positive relations and mutual state visits take place each decade.
