'''Asharia''' is an island nation in the North Pacific Ocean. Two main sapient species inhabit it: Fairies (or Sherzons) and Humans. Fairies make up the minority, of about 10%, but have historically held most of the power on the island due to their being more intelligent than humans on average (20 IQ points more intelligent, to be precise.) Their other main distinguishing feature is being able to fly naturally, using their large wings, high metabolism and feather-tail. They also lay eggs.
The island is mostly mountainous (with the highest mountain being 5281 metres tall), with about 50 km of lowlands bordering there mountains on either side. These lowlands contain rainforests and lights forests (the Northern one) and steppe (the Southern one), some of it forested. 95% of it is classified as having a continental climate, with the lowlands on the South being of the hot Summer variant, and the mountainous inlands and Northern lowlands being of the warm Summer type.
On the mountains, people would grow and harvest the cereal grain Snorg/Nenc (both names are used), which was well suited to being grown in sloped areas. They had special boots which would dig into the mountains to help them navigate them better.
Generally, Asharians (both humans and fairies) have black or brown, thick hair, brown or blue eyes, and, being descended from Beringians (Siberians), facial features that could be described as being similar to that of East Asians. Fairies tend to be taller than humans, on average by 6 centimetres.
It is possible for humans and fairies to interbreed, but this is a strict cultural taboo against this and all of those who do do that are executed immediately.
Asharian (fairy) society is traditionally matriarchal, being ruled by a Queen with absolute power. The fairies have also traditionally been highly chauvianistic towards humans, seeing the majority of them (except for a "chosen" 5%) as little more than slaves which can be used for whatever they want. However, nowadays additudes have apparently been shifting somewhat in some quarters.
The country still is an absolute Queendom, with the third-highest number of nuclear weapons in the world. It is the richest state in the world, although there is large income disparity. It also has the highest lifespan of all countries, with that being 85.3 years. The country maintains a strict policy of neutrality in all world affairs not directly and clearly involving them.
It is believed humans first came to the island in around 18,000 BC. Fairies on the other hand came around 10,000 years later (from where is not known) where they soon (in around 9,000 BC) established the oldest agricultural culture and then civilization known on Earth, with farming first, and then writing eventually, until, in 5,000 BC, the Dynasty of Queens was established solidifying its place as a proper civilization like those in Egypt or Mesopotamia.
The island continued like this, advancing technologically at a rather slow and unsteady rate, discovering the outside world (the people living in California) in around 1534. They  were discovered by the British (Vancouver's expedition) in 1793. This unfortunately collapsed the civilization as its numbers were decimated by disease, with those of the humans reducing by 60% and those of the fairies by 40%. The British, out of respect for the fairies, decided not to colonize the country. Over the years, the country managed to rebuild.
The traditional guiding book of the nation, the scripture of it, is the Tag Narm.

Asharia is a country in the North Atlantic Ocean. It has a size of about 365,000 km2, and a population of about 18.5 million. It is divided into ten states, and has a diverse geography of lowland light, cold and rain forests and forested steppe, highlands, and sub-arctic areas.

Many people identify more with their state than their country, often believing that the country is made up of many ethnic groups divided along state lines. These tend to all have unique features.

A non-comprehensive list of these:

A large percentage of those in Benen have some French ancestry, and are devoutly Catholic.

On the other hand, Vontens, Vorts and Rerle share an identity based off Orthodox Christianity and somewhat isolated living.

The Northern states of Sheirn and Rerle again are quite a bit colder than usual, and have unique bodies of mythology and habits related to that.

Shanchar and Sheston have historically been perhaps the most powerful states, and nowadays tend to be relatively rich, liberal and developed.

Fenr is known for its farming culture and rurality.

People from Eihan tend to highly value nature, sustainability and the environment.

Tiernmen is conservative and traditional, even to the point where most people (covertly or syncretically) still practice pre-Chrstian religions and rituals.
