'''Constantine XX''' (''Gaius Claudius Anicius Nero Constantinus Felix Laurentius Caesar Augustus''; b. 15 March 1994) is the reigning [[Monarchy of Latium|Latin Emperor]] and 118th monarch of Latium. He is also monarch of the [[Belfras|Belfrasian Federation]]. His reign began on 3 November 2016 after the unexpected death of his father, though had been delayed due to the [[Latin succession crisis of 2016|attempted coup]] of his younger brother [[Michael, Prince of Latium|Prince Michael]]. The dispute was settled in early December when Constantine became the only surviving claimant and solidified his hold on the Latin throne. His coronation on 8 December 2017 was Latium's first televised coronation.
'''Constantine XX Claudius''' (''Gaius Claudius Anicius Sabinus Constantinus Iacaerus Atreus Marius''; b. 5 November 1992) is the junior emperor of [[Latium]] and [[Perateia]]. His reign began as junior emperor on 28 February 2019.

Constantine is the second child and only legitimate son of [[Jacobus VI Claudius]] by his wife [[Stephania Pinaria]]. He was educated at Lyceum Sanctus Michaelis for his primary and secondary education, and obtained a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from [[Academia Militaris Olympia]]. Following his graduation and commission as an officer in the [[Latin Armed Forces|armed forces]], Constantine undertook a number of Imperial duties on behalf of his father, including acting as the presiding officer for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Ludi Circenses festival in summer 2014.

Constantine is the oldest child of [[Jason Augustus|Jason VI Augustus]] and [[Zoe Verrucosa]]. He was educated at Lyceum Sanctus Michaelis for his primary and secondary education, obtaining a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from [[Academia Militaris Olympia]]. Following his graduation and commission, Constantine undertook a number of Imperial duties on behalf of his father, including acting as the presiding officer for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Ludi Circenses festival in summer 2016 to mark a shift towards his growing Imperial duties.
In 2014, Constantine married Latin noblewoman [[Amelia Verrucosa]] with whom he has six children, [[Diana of Latium|Diana]], [[Alexius, Prince of Youth]], [[Philippa of Latium|Princess Philippa]], [[Leo of Latium|Prince Leo]], [[Evantia of Latium|Princess Evantia]], [[Theodora of Latium (born 2024)|Princess Theodora]].

The first month of Constantine's rule was plagued by instability, brought on by the sudden and unexpected death of his father, [[Jason Augustus|Jason VI Augustus]], and a coup led by his younger brother Michael. This resulted in a limited succession crisis which lasted from early November 2016 until his brother's death on 2 December 2016, with much of the conflict being simply military posturing and movements. Constantine entered Castellum on 4 December 2016, where he took control of the city and issued a series of executive orders to solidify his rule, most notable of these was an order aimed at local police support and the dissolution of the Scholarian Guard in favor of a Praetorian led gendarmerie. Since, Constantine had also instructed the Ministry of Justice to open an investigation into the causes of the attempted coup and individuals that supported his brother's claim. During the first full year of his reign, Constantine was the target of a failed assassination attempt perpetrated by the [[Gelonian National Front|GSB]], and also instituted local government and future gendarmerie reforms.
Constantine was elevated to junior emperor on 28 February 2019. Since his elevation as emperor, he held his [[Imperial Court (Latium)|court]] in [[Leonople]], where he oversaw the administration and governance of [[Perateia]].

Constantine was born on 15 March 1994 at 11:19 pm in the Blue Room of the [[Palatium Supranio]] to [[Jason Augustus|Jason, Prince of Youth]] and [[Zoe Verrucosa]], and was the couples first child. He was baptized on 13 October 1994 at [[Sancta Sapientia]] by Archbishop Marcus Nasenni of Castellum. His godparents were [[Prince Theodosius, Duke of Beroea]] (his father's brother) [[Maria, Duchess of Vindóbona|Maria, Countess Rutupiae]] (his father's cousin); Damiane Vitruvia (his maternal grandmother); and the future [[Thomas Vitruvius, 3rd Marchis of Antium]] (his mother's cousin). As the son of the heir apparent, Constantine was styled as <nowiki>"Prince Constantine of Youth".</nowiki>
Constantine was born on 5 November 1992 at 11:19 pm in the Purple Room of Heraion, [[Leonople]] to then junior Emperor [[Jacobus VI Claudius]] and [[Stephania Pinaria]]. He was the couples second child, and first son, and, upon his birth, was bestowed the honorific "Purpurogenitus" (Born in the Purple). Constantine was baptized on 25 January 1993 at [[Sancta Sapientia]] by [[Pope Ignatius I]]. His godparents are [[Isabella of Latium|Princess Isabella of Latium]] (his father's sister); then [[John IV of Ghant|John, Crown Prince of Ghant]] (Isabella's husband); [[Anna Pinaria]] (his mother's sister); and [[Henry of Garza|Prince Henry of Garza]] (Anna's husband). As the son of the junior emperor, Constantine was styled as <nowiki>"Prince Constantine of Youth".</nowiki> Constantine was the first future Latin emperor to be born in Scipia since [[Theodosius VI Ostia]] in 1050, who was born in [[Sydalon (city)|Sydalon]].

Following his birth official announcement, a week of games and races were held at the Circus Albae and the National Colosseum in Castellum in celebration. His gender was announced during Princess Zoe's pregnancy announcement, which resulted in celebration and rampant speculation of his name. Many betting firms placing odds for his name, initially the highest odds indicated that Leo was a top choice for his name. However, many in the public were turned off at the idea following the [[Isabella of Latium#Life in Ghant|Princess Isabella Scandal]] and the birth of her son Leo in 1991. This prompted in most bets placed on his naming being either Alexander or Constantine. His name was announced to the press three days after his birth, with Imperial Offices stating he was named in memory of his great-grandfather [[Constantine XIX of Latium|Emperor Constantine XIX]].

===Education===
===Education===
Constantine began his education by attending Sanctus Michaelis in 1997, which he would attend throughout his primary education. He continued his education at Lyceum Sanctus Michaelis for secondary school, he scored grades A in history and math, with B's in sciences. He participated in polo throughout secondary school. Along with his secondary education, Constantine was privately tutored by [[Pankratios Anemas]], who provided lessons on law and the [[Constitution of Latium|constitution]]. Throughout secondary school, the Imperial Family and the tabloid press agreed that Constantine would be allowed to study free of paparazzi intrusion in exchange for regular updates of the Prince's life. This same agreement has been made for all of Jason VI Augustus' children for their secondary and university educations. He graduated from Sanctus Michaelis in 2011.

He opted not to take a gap year, which most considered unusual at the time, and he immediately enrolled at [[Academia Militaris Olympia]]. As a cadet at Olympia, Constantine studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics, though reportedly nearly dropped out of the program in favor of perusing studies in international relations. He reportedly struggled with the program initially, with some classmates claiming that his <nowiki>"[father] pushed him to stay</nowiki> in the PPE program. School files surrounding his switch of academic focus have thus far been unobtainable by members of the press due to repeated blocks of the Freedom of Information Act. During his third year at Olympia, he took part in numerous military training exercises with enlisted members of [[Latin Armed Forces]] including the 11th Legion. He participated in intramural polo throughout his education at Olympia.

Constantine was appointed to the [[Emperor's Council of Latium|Emperor's Council]] at the age of 16, by his father [[Jacobus VI Claudius]]. This allowed Constantine to sit in on Council meetings, and enabled him to make visits on his father's behalf, the first of which was to [[Sydalon]], where he visited the village Sarpeta for Christmas celebrations. The same year, Constantine was granted his own imperial household, which was staffed by at least five individuals during 2009, eventually growing to 20 by 2012. In 2013, Constantine's household organized a charity polo match, with all proceeds and donations to benefit Legionary Cause, a charity aimed at supporting widows and orphans of Latin veterans – the event has since been held annually. Constantine was appointed [[Consul of Latium|consul]] in 2007 and 2013, and was suffect consul from June to December 2010

Constantine has also served as president or honorary leader of numerous Latin Imperial-sponsored events, including both [[Ludi Circenses]] and Transvectio Equitum. In 2014, Constantine was the officer of honor at the annual Transvectio Equitum at [[Academia Militaris Olympia|Olympia]], an event which he participated in during all four years of his education at Olympia. In 2016, he was the presiding officer of the opening and closing ceremonies, duties typical reserved for close relatives of the reigning Monarch.

{{main|Latin succession crisis of 2016}}
On 29 October 2018, it was announced that Constantine's household as Prince of Youth began preparations to oversee a transition to an imperial court, signifying the first phase in his preparation to being elevated to junior emperor. Between October and January, Constantine made a series of appointments to his court, such as X, Y, and Z. He took up residence at [[Leonople|Heraion]], in [[Leonople]], in December 2014, when it was announced that he would be overseeing the government of [[Perateia]] during the first five years of his reign.
===Opening days===
Constantine's father, [[Jason Augustus|Emperor Jason VI Augustus]], died on 3 November 2016 at approximately 8:45 pm at Palace of Augustus. Local news reports stated that gunfire began to erupt from the Palace of Augustus not long after the Emperor's death, with later reports from that evening claiming that Constantine had fled from the city via helicopter with all of his siblings, except for [[Michael, Prince of Latium|Michael]] and [[Selene of Latium|Selene]], along with his cousins, [[Marsella Atmos|step-mother]] and [[Diana Augusta|grandmother]]. The next day, Constantine revealed on a [[Radiotelevisione Latii|RAL]] broadcast that he was in Adrianople and held the [[Latin succession crisis of 2016#Last will and testament of Jason Augustus|last will and testament]] of his father, which he read live on television. This will announced Constantine as true heir to the throne.

Constantine made his temporary Imperial seat in [[Adrianople]]. He soon gained the support of [[Consul of the Latin Empire|Consul]] [[Alexander Pompilius]] and the [[Conservative and Imperial Party|Conservative Party]] on 6 November. A number of other parties, including the [[Progressive Party of Latium|Progressive Party]] and [[Liberal Party (Latin State)|Liberal–Labor Party]] quickly followed and began holding sessions of the Senate in Adrianople.
Constantine was officially elevated to junior emperor on 28 February 2019, following an imperial proclomation by his grandmother [[Diana I Anicia|Empress Diana I]], and his acclamation before the [[Senate of Latium|Latin Senate]] that same morning morning. In the afternoon, Constantine was anointed by [[Pope (Ajax)|Pope Ignatius I]]. An ascension ball was held on the night of his elevation, with guests from X, Y, and Z in attendance. A week of celebration followed, featuring games and festivals normally reserved for a full scale coronation. His acclamation before the [[Senate of Perateia|Perateian Senate]] occurred the following day.
===Initial military involvement===
===Infrastructure plans===
The earliest days of the crisis were spent gathering and moving military support. Constantine dispatched his cousin, [[Leo of Ghant and Latium|Prince Leo of Ghant]], to gain the support of the Byzantion-based legions, which he was ultimately successful after a number of secret meetings in Alexandria. Constantine received the loyalty of the [[Praetorian Guard (Latin State)|Praetorian Guard]] immediately, as well as the support of the recently appointed Master of Soldiers Flavius Vipsanius, who hadn't yet officially taken office. By gaining Vipsanius, Constantine was able to gather the support legions based out of the western, and southern counties. These were countered by the legions gained by Michael in the east, largely centered on [[Ravenna]] and Heraclea and the single legion of [[George d'Espo|George]] massed in Espo.
[[File:Silhouette Saint Sava.JPG|thumb|200px|[[Nea Ekklesia]] following its renovations, 2023.]]
One of Constantine's main priorities once he arrived in [[Leonople]] was to update the ailing infrastructure of the [[Perateia]]. His first act was a major revitalization of the Augustaion, the city's central forum and corresponding central square. Other infrastructure plans included the reconstruction of many dilapidated roads or highways, public transportation, telecommunications, and disaster relief due to historical earthquakes in the area. Many of these projects remained in progress as Constantine became sole emperor in 2016, though have since been completed.

Constantine's legions began to move east towards Castellum and held position in the city of Kallipolis, where they were met by a mixed army of regulars and Scholarian gendarmerie. The two sides were engaged in minor skirmishes, but never activly engaged, resulting in a major standoff that lasted until the end of November with neither side willing to fire the first shot. On November 19, photographs were released that Constantine had visited his army near Kallipolis.
Constantine's government also oversaw renovations of both [[Hagia Euergetou]] and [[Nea Ekklesia]] in an effort to modernize both basilicas. The renovations began in August 2019, and were completed in 2023. Constantine initiated the renovations with funds from his own incomes, though state, church and other private funds were utilized as well. He has since become a key sponsor of Nea Ekklesia.

Constantine was reportedly actively involved in the military planning, and regularly involved the Senate with his plans. Palace staff at [[Palatium Supranio]] reported regular cabinet meetings and war councils involving a number of high ranking generals and military advisors, with Constantine often handling much of the military strategy himself.
Individuals from within Constantine's court reported that plans were discussed to construct a canal which would bisect the Scipian side Perateia to alleviate maritime traffic of the Perseid Strait. The project reportedly has reportedly been in early planning stages since the late 1990s, but was shelved due to the [[2002 Lisena earthquake]]. The canal plans were again shelved in 2019 due to the [[Fahrani Civil War]], but talks have resumed at the war's conclusion in 2023.
===Final days===
By November 29, Constantine's government in Adrianople had received the support of nearly all county-level governments in Latium that were not near [[Castellum]] and Greater Alba.

Constantine entered Castellum on 3 December 2016, the day after his brother's death at the hands of their second cousin [[Adrian Ulpius]]. He was preceded by his cousin [[Leo of Ghant and Latium|Leo]], who had taken control of the city from Michael's forces. Constantine and his forces were joined by Emperor [[Nathan IV of Ghant]] and a minor Ghantish force when he entered the city that day. Constantine began to assert his control over the city and invited the Lord Mayor of Castellum and Deputy Mayor of Alba to the Palace where Constantine offered Praetorian support to aid the local police in returning stability to the city.
In April 2022, Constantine enacted legislation to upgrade parts of the energy grid, and promote investments in battery storage.
===Investigations===
===Administration===
==Reign==
Constantine sought to simplify governance of Perateia, and organized a [[Local Council (Perateia)|Local Council]], similar to that of the Latin council of the same name. However, this act saw varied responses due to the Local Council's ability to potentially circumvent the [[Senate of Perateia|Senate]]. Constantine has continued to reform local government in Perateia throughout his reign, and has issued imperial edicts to expand on local government efficiency.
===2017===
After ending the [[Latin succession crisis of 2016|succession crisis]], Constantine began to issue a number of executive orders towards restoring order and civilian control to both the central, Imperial government and local governments. The first of these orders was to abolish the Scholarian Guard and temporarily placed it's competencies as national gendarmerie under Praetorian control. Constantine also removed his armies from the capital, though provided any logistical support to local police in ensuring proper civilian control to the city.

On 25 January 2017, Constantine called for new elections and formally dissolved the [[Senate of the Latin Empire|Senate]] on 9 February.
In 2023, Constantine expanded the number of seats on the [[Leonople#Government|Leonople Assembly]], making a series of appointments including the first women appointed to the city assembly.

==Personal life==
===Courtships===
As with most members of the Imperial family, Constantine's personal life has often been subject to great public interest and speculation. Constantine has only had two known relationships. His first relationship with [[Sophia of Ossonoba]] began during his first year at Olympia, but ended without before the year's end. His second was with his future wife [[Amelia Verrucosa]].
===Relationship with Amelia Verrucosa===
Constantine first met Verrucosa at a young age due to the close ties between Verrucosa's family and the Imperial Family. Verrucosa was briefly a became a lady in waiting to Constantine's sister, [[Leona of Latium|Princess Leona]]. There was no known relationship between Constantine and Verrucosa until late June 2011, with rumors of a relationship reaching the press as Verrucosa attended the wedding of [[Maria of Latium|Princess Maria]] and [[Martin, Crown Prince of Dakmoor]], where she and Constantine were frequently seen in each other's company. Soon after, Constantine attended a University of Haenna production of ''Deceperat''<!--The Deceived-->, in which Verrucosa held a primarily role. Tabloid reports in Latium began to run stories that Verrucosa and Constantine were in a relationship, but no comment was made by the Imperial Family. Verrucosa faced extensive tabloid scrutiny due to the rumored relationship with Prince Constantine.

Constantine, by way of Imperial Offices, had announced plans as early as January for reforms geared towards the county-level office of Propraetor in mid-January. At the initial announcement, little of substance was offered in the proposal other than <nowiki>"a desire for a more rapid response to both local and Imperial government needs."</nowiki> By the first week of February, Constantine issued an Imperial edict which provided Propraetors a more direct role in the county-level councils, in some cases veto power, and enhanced military or armed police capabilities – particularly among gendarmerie and reserve forces. Since the edict, all propraetors have been given seats on the [[Emperor's Council of Latium|Emperor's Council of Advisors]].
Tabloid pressure grew further when, a year later, Verrucosa was Constantine's personal guest in the Imperial Box during the [[Ludi Circenses|2012 Ludi Circenses]]. The incident prompted [[Delpha Verrco]] to purchase ''[[Delpha Verrco#Newspapers|Auditio Diurna]]'', and the firing of at least 10 staff members. The couple was frequently seen in each other's company over the next several months, along with a number of visits by Verrucosa to [[Academia Militaris Olympia|Olympia]], where Constantine was a cadet. It wasn't until 27 January 2013 that the Imperial Household announced a courtship between Constantine and Verrucosa. The announcement resulted in a stern warning by the Imperial Household regarding the privacy of Constantine and Verrucosa due to previous harassment she had encountered.

===Marriage===
In early September 2017, a local and regional government reform petition reached 500,000 prompting Constantine to order the Senate to explore and debate the measure. The petition, named Citizens for a better local government, was focused on calling for {{wp|devolution|devolved}} or autonomous sub-national governments throughout Latium, with a bulk of signatures coming from residents of Gelonian-speaking counties or [[Imbros]]. Imperial offices announced that Constantine was <nowiki>"receptive" to the idea, and was "looking forward to seeing Senate proposals."</nowiki>
On 19 August 2013, the Prince of Youth's Office announced the engagement of Constantine and Verrucosa, which included a a planned wedding date of 18 November 2013, prompting foreign tabloids to report that the short engagement was due to an unannounced pregnancy. The couple was away from the Latium during the announcement and made their first public appearance together on 30 August 2013, where they attended a performance of [play], in Castellum.

One bill was pushed forward by [[Together for Byzantion]] and a number of smaller parties focused on greater regional autonomy, though this bill ultimately failed. A second bill passed through committee on September 14, and later reached the Senate for vote two weeks later on September 25. Constantine signed the measure into law, and announced that referendums would be held in the proposed boundaries of the devolved administration of Gelonian-speaking Latium, named Brennia, and [[Imbros]] to take place on November 8. Only the Imbrosian devolution plan gained the necessary votes.

===Assassination attempt===
{{main|Assassination attempt of Constantine XX}}
A military parade was scheduled to take place on Friday, 13 January 2017, with many mockingly referring to the event as a <nowiki>"triumph"</nowiki> due to the parade route following that of ancient Latin triumphs. The week was marked with celebrations, including chariot races sponsored by the Imperial household and an international football match between Latium and country. On the day of the parade, Constantine was joined by a number of guests including [[Alexander Pompilius|Consul Alexander Pompilius]] and his family, a number of other prominent senators, a number of [[Peerages in the Latin Empire|peers]], and a Ghantish Imperial Party which included [[Nathan IV of Ghant|Emperor Nathan IV]] and [[Anastasia of Ghant|Princess Anastasia of Ghant]], for a private church service at St. Maria's Basilica Outside the Walls, presided by  Theodorus Afinius, an Auxiliary Bishop of Castellum.

The parade began at approximately 10:00 am BST, with Constantine entering through the Golden Gate of the Felixian Walls on horseback followed by the Imperial Party and a mixed unit of [[Praetorian Guard of Latium|Praetorians]], and the [[Latin Army|10th legion]]. At approximately 10:30 am, a lone individual, named [[Lanig Kou Sezneci]] managed to get past police and fired four shots at Constantine before he was himself killed by [[John Santella|Praetorian Prefect John Santella]]. All four shots missed Constantine, as he was pushed from his horse by [[Nathan IV of Ghant]] as Sezneci began to fire, and only suffered injuries related to falling from his horse.

The [[Gelonian National Front]] quickly claimed responsibility for the attack, prompting a lockdown and curfew to be placed in effect for 5 boroughs of Castellum through the next night. Investigations into Sezneci would discover that he had left a suicide note in his Castellum hotel room, though it has not been publicly released by the [[Frumentarii]] due to <nowiki>"possible threats against national security"</nowiki>.
During their engagement, Verrucosa resided at her own personal apartment at Palatium Aureum or [[Monarchy of Perateia#Residences|Kainourgion]]. Despite residing at a different estate, Verrucosa was regularly at the [[Leonople|Heraion]], or in Castellum, whether to spend time with Constantine or prepare to become Empress. Constantine and Verrucosa attended public events together, and she was on hand for state visits that occurred during this time.

Constantine made his first public appearance after the attempt the following morning on January 14.
===Coronation===
Plans for Constantine's coronation were first discussed in early January, though no proposed timelines were announced weeks later in February. Constantine said that he did not wish to have talk of his <nowiki>"coronation spoil election season"</nowiki> and Imperial Offices announced that more concrete information would be released following the 2017 State Opening of Senate in April. On 4 May 2017, it was announced that Constantine's coronation would be held on Friday, 8 December 2017, at Basilica of the Blessed Virgin in [[Adrianople]]. Constantine's mother, [[Zoe Verrucosa|Princess Zoe, Countess of Aarhusium]], was announced to be the chairman of Coronation Commission three days later. Four months into planning, it was announced that Constantine would be marrying [[Anastasia of Ghant|Princess Anastasia of Ghant]] in a ceremony taking place immediately after his coronation.

Constantine's coronation was the first in Latin history to be televised, with domestic broadcasts on the [[Radiotelevisione Latii|RAL]] and international broadcasts on RALInternational or [[Delpha (television networks)|Delpha Prime]] where available.
Constantine and Amelia married on 18 November 2013, at the [[Sancta Sapientia]], in Castellum. The ceremony was officiated by [[Pope Urban IX]]. Amelia was crowned Princess of Youth during the wedding ceremony. The event was attended by guests from across [[Ajax|the world]], including reigning monarchs from all Belisarian states, [[Mutul]], and other foreign nobility and representatives. The ceremony reportedly cost {{LAS}}22 million, most of which was paid for by the Imperial family, though security and transportation were covered by the state. A bank holiday was instituted for the wedding throughout Latium and its overseas territories, as well as [[Perateia]]. A second ceremony was held three days later at [[Hagia Euergetou]], in [[Leonople]]. Amelia and Constantine moved into the Aemilia Suite at Palatium Aurea, which became their official residence, rather than Velia House, which was at the time undergoing renovations.
==Personal life==
As with most members of the Imperial family, Constantine's personal life has often been subject to great public interest and speculation. Constantine reportedly had his first relationship during secondary school with classmate and noblewoman [[Marcia Anicia]], daughter of [[Nicephorus Anicius, 3rd Duke of Ossonoba]], though a relationship was never confirmed by either family.

Constantine began courting [[Anastasia of Ghant|Princess Anastasia of Ghant]] sometime in January 2017. The pair reportedly first met at the wedding of [[Arietta of Ghant]] and [[Vitus, Crown Prince of Staalmark|Crown Prince Vitus of Staalmark]] in summer 2016, and reconnected not long after the [[Latin succession crisis of 2016|2016 succession crisis]]. Constantine and Anastasia became engaged in September 2017.
In December 2013, media began to report on a leak from within the Imperial Household that Amelia was pregnant, which was confirmed by the couple in January 2014. The couple's first child, Diana, was born at [[Palatium Supranio]], on 2 April 2014. In late September 2014, the Imperial Household announced that the couple was expecting their second child. Constantine's first son, and heir, Alexius, was born less than a year after his elder sister, on 12 March 2015, also at [[Palatium Supranio]]. Amelia gave birth to [[Philippa of Latium|Princess Philippa]] on 6 June 2017, to [[Leo of Latium|Prince Leo]] on 14 February 2019, and to the couple's fifth child [[Evantia of Latium|Princess Evantia]] on 3 April 2021. As of summer 2024, the couple is expecting their sixth child.
===Marriage===
==Public perception and character==
Constantine married [[Anastasia of Ghant|Anastasia, Princess of Ghant]] on 8 December 2017, at the Basilica of the Blessed Virgin in Adrianople. The ceremony was officiated by Archbishop Eutychianus Caesennius of Adrianople, and attended by guests from across [[Ajax|the world]], including reigning monarchs from all Belisarian states, [[Afalia]], [[Mutul]], and leaders from republican states such as [[Belfras]]. The ceremony reportedly cost {{LAS}}22 million, most of which was paid for by the Imperial family, though security and transportation were covered by the state. A bank holiday was instituted for the wedding across Latium.
Constantine rarely participated in interviews prior to his reign as emperor and in the few he had taken part in he was careful not to address his personal political leanings or feelings. However, classmates of Constantine's have occasionally spoken of him having a more traditionalist view on the Monarchy in Latin society. At Olympia as then Prince of Youth, Constantine was invited on more than one occasion to become to president of the school's Young Populares and Junior Optimates – both being the student arms of Latium's largest senatorial factions. He refused to participate as leader of either organization, though did agree to occasionally sit in on meetings for both organizations.
===Children===
His wife's first pregnancy was announced on 26 March 2018, with an expected due date in early October 2018. The couple's first child, [[Diana, Princess of Youth]] was born on 26 September 2018

Constantine XX Claudius (Gaius Claudius Anicius Sabinus Constantinus Iacaerus Atreus Marius; b. 5 November 1992) is the junior emperor of Latium and Perateia. His reign began as junior emperor on 28 February 2019.

Constantine is the second child and only legitimate son of Jacobus VI Claudius by his wife Stephania Pinaria. He was educated at Lyceum Sanctus Michaelis for his primary and secondary education, and obtained a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Academia Militaris Olympia. Following his graduation and commission as an officer in the armed forces, Constantine undertook a number of Imperial duties on behalf of his father, including acting as the presiding officer for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Ludi Circenses festival in summer 2014.

In 2014, Constantine married Latin noblewoman Amelia Verrucosa with whom he has six children, Diana, Alexius, Prince of Youth, Princess Philippa, Prince Leo, Princess Evantia, Princess Theodora.

Constantine was elevated to junior emperor on 28 February 2019. Since his elevation as emperor, he held his court in Leonople, where he oversaw the administration and governance of Perateia.

Early Life and education

Constantine was born on 5 November 1992 at 11:19 pm in the Purple Room of Heraion, Leonople to then junior Emperor Jacobus VI Claudius and Stephania Pinaria. He was the couples second child, and first son, and, upon his birth, was bestowed the honorific "Purpurogenitus" (Born in the Purple). Constantine was baptized on 25 January 1993 at Sancta Sapientia by Pope Ignatius I. His godparents are Princess Isabella of Latium (his father's sister); then John, Crown Prince of Ghant (Isabella's husband); Anna Pinaria (his mother's sister); and Prince Henry of Garza (Anna's husband). As the son of the junior emperor, Constantine was styled as "Prince Constantine of Youth". Constantine was the first future Latin emperor to be born in Scipia since Theodosius VI Ostia in 1050, who was born in Sydalon.

Following his birth official announcement, a week of games and races were held at the Circus Albae and the Amphitheatrum Anicium in Castellum in celebration. His gender was first announced alongside his mother's pregnancy announcement. This was a first for Latin imperial births and resulted in celebration and rampant speculation of his name. Many betting firms placing odds for his name, initially the highest odds indicated that Leo was a top choice for his name. However, that later gave way to most firms highest odds on his naming being either John or Constantine. His name was announced to the press nine days after his birth, with Imperial Offices stating he was named in memory of both his great-grandfather Emperor Constantine XIX and his great-great grandfather Constantine V of Keld.

Education

Constantine began his education by attending Eleutherion, in Leonople, as well as added instruction from private tutors. After his father, Constantine is only the second Latin ruler to attend formal schooling. He continued his education at Lyceum Sanctus Michaelis for secondary school, he scored grades A in history and math, with B's in sciences. He participated in polo throughout secondary school. Along with his secondary education, Constantine was privately tutored by Pankratios Anemas, who provided lessons on law and the Latin and Perateian constitutions. Throughout secondary school, the Imperial Family and the tabloid press agreed that Constantine would be allowed to study free of paparazzi intrusion in exchange for regular updates of the Prince's life. This same agreement has been made for all of Jacobus VI Claudius' children for their secondary and university educations. He earned his bac from Sanctus Michaelis in 2010.

He opted not to take a gap year, and he immediately enrolled at Academia Militaris Olympia. As a cadet at Olympia, Constantine studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics, though reportedly nearly dropped out of the program in favor of perusing studies in international relations. He reportedly struggled with the program initially, with some news reports quoting unnamed classmates claiming that Constantine's "[father] pushed him to stay in the PPE program. School files surrounding his change of academic focus have been unobtainable to the public. During his third year at Olympia, he took part in numerous military training exercises with enlisted members of Latin Armed Forces, and Perateian armed forces, including the 11th Legion. He participated in polo throughout his education at Olympia.

Prince of Youth

Constantine was appointed to the Emperor's Council at the age of 16, by his father Jacobus VI Claudius. This allowed Constantine to sit in on Council meetings, and enabled him to make visits on his father's behalf, the first of which was to Sydalon, where he visited the village Sarpeta for Christmas celebrations. Constantine was appointed consul in 2007 and 2013, and was suffect consul from June to December 2010

Constantine also served as president or honorary leader of numerous Latin Imperial-sponsored events, including both Ludi Circenses and Transvectio Equitum. In 2013, Constantine was the officer of honor at the annual Transvectio Equitum at Academia Militaris Olympia, an event which he participated in during all three years of his education at Olympia. In 2014, he was the presiding officer of the opening and closing ceremonies, duties typical reserved for close relatives of the reigning monarch.

Elevation as junior emperor

On 29 October 2018, it was announced that Constantine's household as Prince of Youth began preparations to oversee a transition to an imperial court, signifying the first phase in his preparation to being elevated to junior emperor. Between October and January, Constantine made a series of appointments to his court, such as X, Y, and Z. He took up residence at Heraion, in Leonople, in December 2014, when it was announced that he would be overseeing the government of Perateia during the first five years of his reign.

Constantine was officially elevated to junior emperor on 28 February 2019, following an imperial proclomation by his grandmother Empress Diana I, and his acclamation before the Latin Senate that same morning morning. In the afternoon, Constantine was anointed by Pope Ignatius I. An ascension ball was held on the night of his elevation, with guests from X, Y, and Z in attendance. A week of celebration followed, featuring games and festivals normally reserved for a full scale coronation. His acclamation before the Perateian Senate occurred the following day.

Infrastructure plans

Nea Ekklesia following its renovations, 2023.

One of Constantine's main priorities once he arrived in Leonople was to update the ailing infrastructure of the Perateia.

Constantine's government also oversaw renovations of both Hagia Euergetou and Nea Ekklesia in an effort to modernize both basilicas. The renovations began in August 2019, and were completed in 2023. Constantine initiated the renovations with funds from his own incomes, though state, church and other private funds were utilized as well. He has since become a key sponsor of Nea Ekklesia.

Individuals from within Constantine's court reported that plans were discussed to construct a canal which would bisect the Scipian side Perateia to alleviate maritime traffic of the Perseid Strait. The project reportedly has reportedly been in early planning stages since the late 1990s, but was shelved due to the 2002 Lisena earthquake. The canal plans were again shelved in 2019 due to the Fahrani Civil War, but talks have resumed at the war's conclusion in 2023.

In April 2022, Constantine enacted legislation to upgrade parts of the energy grid, and promote investments in battery storage.

Administration

Constantine sought to simplify governance of Perateia, and organized a Local Council, similar to that of the Latin council of the same name. However, this act saw varied responses due to the Local Council's ability to potentially circumvent the Senate. Constantine has continued to reform local government in Perateia throughout his reign, and has issued imperial edicts to expand on local government efficiency.

In 2023, Constantine expanded the number of seats on the Leonople Assembly, making a series of appointments including the first women appointed to the city assembly.

Personal life

Courtships

As with most members of the Imperial family, Constantine's personal life has often been subject to great public interest and speculation. Constantine has only had two known relationships. His first relationship with Sophia of Ossonoba began during his first year at Olympia, but ended without before the year's end. His second was with his future wife Amelia Verrucosa.

Relationship with Amelia Verrucosa

Constantine first met Verrucosa at a young age due to the close ties between Verrucosa's family and the Imperial Family. Verrucosa was briefly a became a lady in waiting to Constantine's sister, Princess Leona. There was no known relationship between Constantine and Verrucosa until late June 2011, with rumors of a relationship reaching the press as Verrucosa attended the wedding of Princess Maria and Martin, Crown Prince of Dakmoor, where she and Constantine were frequently seen in each other's company. Soon after, Constantine attended a University of Haenna production of Deceperat, in which Verrucosa held a primarily role. Tabloid reports in Latium began to run stories that Verrucosa and Constantine were in a relationship, but no comment was made by the Imperial Family. Verrucosa faced extensive tabloid scrutiny due to the rumored relationship with Prince Constantine.

Tabloid pressure grew further when, a year later, Verrucosa was Constantine's personal guest in the Imperial Box during the 2012 Ludi Circenses. The incident prompted Delpha Verrco to purchase Auditio Diurna, and the firing of at least 10 staff members. The couple was frequently seen in each other's company over the next several months, along with a number of visits by Verrucosa to Olympia, where Constantine was a cadet. It wasn't until 27 January 2013 that the Imperial Household announced a courtship between Constantine and Verrucosa. The announcement resulted in a stern warning by the Imperial Household regarding the privacy of Constantine and Verrucosa due to previous harassment she had encountered.

Marriage

On 19 August 2013, the Prince of Youth's Office announced the engagement of Constantine and Verrucosa, which included a a planned wedding date of 18 November 2013, prompting foreign tabloids to report that the short engagement was due to an unannounced pregnancy. The couple was away from the Latium during the announcement and made their first public appearance together on 30 August 2013, where they attended a performance of [play], in Castellum.

During their engagement, Verrucosa resided at her own personal apartment at Palatium Aureum or Kainourgion. Despite residing at a different estate, Verrucosa was regularly at the Heraion, or in Castellum, whether to spend time with Constantine or prepare to become Empress. Constantine and Verrucosa attended public events together, and she was on hand for state visits that occurred during this time.

Constantine and Amelia married on 18 November 2013, at the Sancta Sapientia, in Castellum. The ceremony was officiated by Pope Urban IX. Amelia was crowned Princess of Youth during the wedding ceremony. The event was attended by guests from across the world, including reigning monarchs from all Belisarian states, Mutul, and other foreign nobility and representatives. The ceremony reportedly cost $22 million, most of which was paid for by the Imperial family, though security and transportation were covered by the state. A bank holiday was instituted for the wedding throughout Latium and its overseas territories, as well as Perateia. A second ceremony was held three days later at Hagia Euergetou, in Leonople. Amelia and Constantine moved into the Aemilia Suite at Palatium Aurea, which became their official residence, rather than Velia House, which was at the time undergoing renovations.

In December 2013, media began to report on a leak from within the Imperial Household that Amelia was pregnant, which was confirmed by the couple in January 2014. The couple's first child, Diana, was born at Palatium Supranio, on 2 April 2014. In late September 2014, the Imperial Household announced that the couple was expecting their second child. Constantine's first son, and heir, Alexius, was born less than a year after his elder sister, on 12 March 2015, also at Palatium Supranio. Amelia gave birth to Princess Philippa on 6 June 2017, to Prince Leo on 14 February 2019, and to the couple's fifth child Princess Evantia on 3 April 2021. As of summer 2024, the couple is expecting their sixth child.

Public perception and character

Constantine is a practicing Catholic in the Imperial Church.
