Bungussi is a country in eastern Astyria, in northern Hesperidesia. The majority of its landmass lies south of the equator. From west to east, its land borders are with the Blackhelm Confederacy, Kwalawi and Jafala. It has coastlines on the Mare Ferum and Sinus Tritonus. With a population of 47,310,516, it is the fourth most-populous country in Hesperidesia, and at 3,335,400 square kilometres (1,287,800 sq mi) it is the third largest country on the continent.
History
The earliest inhabitants of Bungussi were hunter gatherer people. Between 150 BC and 300 AD, the warrior Bungu people began to settle along the Bonzili river, in the nation's interior. Around roughly the same time, the Gussari people began settling along the coasts. Around approximately 800 AD, the Djujiba people also began settling in the area.
Empire of Exponent
During the 12th century, the Empire of Exponent launched the Northern Crusade, which captured the area of modern day Bungussi, as well as Charvonia and Sarantaea.
During the Great Astyrian War, Bungussi was also the location of the ill-fated Aswickan Tridentum Campaign, which sought to capture the city of Tridentum and open a second front in Hesperidesia, alleviating the besieged Beriquois forces in Cote d'Cuivre.
Bungussan War of Independence
In 1968, armed groups in Bungussi - inspired by the successes in Jafala and Cote d'Cuivre, began their own attacks against Imperial forces.
These attacks continued until the signing of the Treaty of Paradisa in 1988, which granted Bungussi its independence.
Post Independence
Bungussi engaged in the brief War of the Brothers against Jafala shortly after achieving independence. More recently, Bungussi has been engaged in several missions alongside fellow members of the East Astyrian Treaty Alliance, deploying forces to Terre Azure and Kamalbia, among other locations.
Politics
Bungussi is a presidential Republic, with a non-term-limitted president who runs for re-election ever six years.
Military
Bungussi's defence is provided for by the Bungussan Military, which consists of four branches: the Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force. Together these consist of roughly 140,000 personnel.
Foreign relations
Like other Hesperidesian countries, Bungussi is a member of the East Astyrian Treaty Alliance and the Hesperidesian Union.
