Lisander, officially the Principality of Lisander is a nation situated in the Astyrian Probation Region. The principality is a constitutional monarchy headed by the Prince of Lisander, a constitutional monarch that keeps de jure extensive powers. It is a small-to-medium nation with an area of 93.320 Km² and a population of roughly 12 million people. Divided into 70 municipalities (communes), its capital is Soria, that is also its largest municipality.
With a prosperous economy, Lisander private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Tourism, Book Publishing, and Arms Manufacturing. State-owned companies are common. The country has a strong government and a historic of "humanist" governments prioritizing a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct. The government coffers, full of money from a high tax burden, are ready to deal with the competing demands of Education, Administration, and its Universal Public Healthcare system, which puts Lisander in the top 2% of the multiverse when it comes to health.
Etimology
The lands that make up the islands of Lisander were first called the Islands of Azhaar. However, with the rise to power of Lisander I, the first prince, there was a division between the islands that were "of Azhaar", and the large main island, which came to be called the "Domain of Lisander". Over the years, the Principality of Azhaar came to be called the Principality of Lisander.
History
This part is probably getting an update soon.
Politics
Lisander has been a Constitutional Monarchy since 1817, and a Parliamentary Democracy since 1899. Politics internal of the principality is marked by a strong nationalism of a social nature, with the main motivation being to meet the needs of the population. Lisander is currently in the group of 10% of the safest nations in the world due to the country's social policy, which in recent years has focused mostly on education.
Currently, the reigning Monarch in Lisander is Prince Johannes VII, who has held office since September 2013, following the abdication of his father, Peter IV. Johannes had previously been regent of Lisander since January, when Peter suffered an automobile accident that left him unable to attend to his commitments as sovereign. The monarch of Lisander holds the power of moderator, acting as the supreme judge of all government decisions, ratifying and proposing laws, and issuing decrees "at will". His duties also include formal command of the armed forces.
The Lisander Parliament is bicameral. The Court of Nobles is formed annually by a varying number of members of the Lisander nobility, who may be appointed by other nobles through letters of recommendation, or by the sovereign himself. The Parliament is formed by 140 representatives of the cities of Lisander, (two from each commune), elected every five years. Both houses have the right to present bills, but in order to pass them, both houses must approve them.
