Historical Background

Jarldoms have their roots as separate Trønder colonies prior to 1861. The first few colonies were founded in the 1600s and compromised much of the eastern and southern coasts of modern Tevitheim, making up much of what is now Elveanna, New Tremblant, Gulkystheim, New Hammerfest, Måkeøyene, and Hellighjerte, in addition to the island chains offshore. As time passed, the population grew and expanded west. Internecine wars often erupted, resulting in Trøndheim intervening and federating its colonies into what would eventually become Tevitheim. Local nationalism continued, and the breakup of Tevitheim-Anthros resulted in several constituent states forming out of what was once Tevitheim.

The legislative powers of the jarldoms are protected by the Tevitheim constitution, section 1, and under the principle of federalism, federal legislation only applies to the jarldoms where permitted by the constitution. The territories, by contrast, are from a constitutional perspective directly subject to the federal government; laws for territories are determined by the Nasjonalforsamling.

Proposals for New Jarldoms
