During the 2016 succession crisis, Daedalus remained in Castellum ab Alba. At the end of the crisis and dissolution of the Senate, Daedalus resigned from his position with Senator Caepasius and announced his intention to run for the constituency of Ostia Aterni near Aarhusium. The seat had previously been held by Progressive Senator Jordan Avidius. Ostia Aterni has been widely cited as one of the most liberal constituencies in Latium, having been held by a Liberal or Progressive senator since the 1870s.
Deadalus was employed as a policy advisor and political strategist in Senator Justinian Caepasius' offices from 2015 to 2016. Upon the 2017 dissolution of the Senate, Daedalus resigned from his position with Caepasius and successfully earned a spot on the Boni faction list for the 2017 election.

Daedalus had initially planned to run as an Independent candidate, though reportedly received offers to run as a member of Alius and Catholic Democratic Alliance, before joining United Latium before the March 9 deadline. He faced no primary opponent, though the incumbent senator, Jordan Avidius, lost in the Progressive primary. Daedalus was polling near 25 to 30% throughout the campaign, and capitalized on a strong final push by the Alius candidate Sophia Erucia, which saw a split between left-leaning voters on election day. Daedalus received 31% on election day, enough to earn a plurality and victory; his closest opponent was Progressive incumbent Jordan Avidius who only earned 29% of the popular vote.
Later leaks demonstrated that Daedalus offered a spot on the faction lists for all other eligible factions, including Boni and the newly formed Alius. When he was sworn in on 21 April 2017, Daedalus became the youngest active Latin Senator.
