Mathoi is a federal state comprising 34 provinces, each of which enjoys its own power structure and legislative and executive autonomy, in addition to serving as an administrative region. These Provinces serve as the Mathoian first-level administrative divisions.

- ↑ World maps usually refer to the city as Phenkung, due to the international recognition of the Phenkung notation in the Fungsan language. But Mathoian national maps and some world maps that respect ethnic distributions use Phinnking, the Tamtsui language name for the city.
- ↑ At the time of Mathoi's founding, X and X were the two largest cities in the province, so the city was named after their initials. However, over time, with the development of industry and railroads, they lost their regional status to Tamtsui.
