The Killeen-class are a class of six helicopter cruisers built by Pereda Construción Naval Consolidada for the Imperial Navy of Temuair. They are primarily designed for anti-submarine warfare tasks and are intended to form the center of antisubmarine warfare task forces, the primary purpose of these task forces being the location and elimination of Notreceauen ballistic missile submarines and their escorts, as well the detection, prosecution and elimination of hostile attack submarines seeking to engage Imperial military vessels or merchantmen.
The last remaining vessel of this class in service, the BNA Ascendencia is assigned to the Imperial Navy's Descanso Flotilla . The Ascendencia is slated to be retired in early 2020.
History
In the 1980's, the 6 vessels of Killeen-class received equipment upgrades, replacing their Tridente missiles and arm launchers with newer, longer ranged missiles based on the RIM-67 Standard missile. In addition the Areiva Chama anitsubmarine missile and launcher were removed from the vessels, and the weapon replaced by the more capable Aerotecnia MASIN missile; a 533 mm torpedo-tube launched missile which can equip either an anti-submarine torpedo or a nuclear depth charge. The ships received an updated electronics package, mounting Graymayre-550 2-D air search radar, a new fire control radar also from Graymayre and the Hybrasil Eco-C sonar.
