The administrative divisions of Fratanica are made up of 15 first-tier administrative divisions: there is 1 self-autonomous capital city (Viras) and 14 provinces. These provinces are further divided into a second-tier, consisting of rural districts (<150,000), urban districts (>150,000, less than 500,000), and metropolitan areas (>500,000). The third tier consists of municipalities and townships. The fourth and final tier represents the sub-municipal divisions, divided into towns (>10,000, less than 50,000), cities (>50,000), and boroughs (<10,000).
An additional first tier classification has been proposed for large metropolitan cities, however this has not been put into effect as of yet.
Classification
First tier
The first tier consists of the highest administrative division level in Fratanica, involving provinces and self-autonomous capital cities. Provinces are the highest level of administrative division in Fratanica, with 14 provinces currently being present. Through the principle of Fratanican federalism, provincial governments possess a lot of power when involving a wide plethora of affairs. Viras, the capital city, is considered to be a self-governing capital area, ran by its own mayor. The city can exercise the same powers provincial governments can.
Second tier
The second tier involves the first level of sub-divisions of each province: rural districts, urban districts, and metropolitan areas. The entire landmass is divided up into these sub-divisions, numbering around 1,376 of them.
Rural districts
These districts contain less than 150,000 people within it.
Urban districts
These districts contain over 150,000 people and less than 500,000 people. Such districts are the most prevalent throughout Fratanica.
Metropolitan areas
Metropolitan areas contain over 500,000 people. These areas are often more confined and encompass less land mass, and they may contain multiple townships or municipalities.
Third tier
The third tier consists of further subdivisions of districts, including townships and municipalities.
Townships
Townships encompass the territory of a town, and have a population less than 50,000 people within them.
Municipalities
Much of the country is divided into municipalities, which have both corporate status and powers of self-government as determined by the provincial governments.
Fourth tier
The final tier consists of cities, towns, and boroughs. This is the typical classification used to describe the types of local settlements.
Cities
These settlements have over 50,000 people in them.
Towns
This classification applies if the settlement has over 10,000 people, but less than
