Music Idol Camp is a long-running survival reality TV show which has been broadcast in Malgrave since 2007. It has directly contributed towards the development of many idols in the country and helped create popular groups like Venus. Netizens have also praised the show for providing suitable subtitles in a variety of languages, a factor which has been credited as partially leading to a recent uptick in the popularity of Malgravean cultural products overseas.
History
In the immediate years following the end of the Malgravean Civil War and due to reforms made to Ascension Productions the number of cultural productions being made in Malgrave rapidly increased, a period that has become known as the Cultural Revolution (Malgrave) which led to the rise of stars like Sakura Saito.
Yet the troubles of the Lost Decade led to a relative decline in these productions, as people across the country stopped purchasing new music at the same level and cultural inspiration was also reduced due to the depression of the era. In the early 2000s, however, the economy was showing signs of recovery, and new efforts were made to try and spark a new cultural revolution.
A few efforts were tried and failed but in 2006, a proposal was made for a new survival reality show which would see a host of prospective idols whittled down slowly until a winner was declared, with the added benefit being that other contestants in the show could be picked from the show and have their own musical careers promoted.
Music Idol Camp started in 2007 and was initially a mixed success, as netizens of the time noted that the show didn't focus enough on the idols themselves and left them feeling little personal connection to the stars. In response, the length of the show was doubled from 45 to 90 minutes, an increase which meant that the show could now film more behind-the-scenes clips and showcase the idols living in dorms and interacting with each other.
After these reforms were implemented, the second season of Music Idol Camp was far more successful and the show has continued to grow since those early days. It is now one of the most popular shows in the country, and only really competes with Weekly Music Countdown in terms of viewership figures in the country.
