Charel V (Charel Andreus Johanen Halburten; born 9 December 1984) is the 49th and current monarch of Valvexia, seceeding his brother Andreus VI as king after his abdication on 16 August 2016. With accordance with the Royal Charter of State and Government, Charel V also serves as the head of the Church of Valvexia as well as the Prime Commander of the Valvexian armed forces.
Early Life
Charel Andreus Johanen Halburten, Prince of Valvexia was born on 9 December 1984 in the Royal Palace of Travalle to Queen-Consort Marie Camden and King Andreus V. As the second-born to the king and queen-consort and as the younger brother to Andreus, Crown Prince of Valvexia, Charel was the second in line to the Valvexian throne.
2nd Valvexian Civil War
Prince Charel and the Crown Prince was four and six, respectively, when the Second Valvexian Civil War broke out in March 1988. The two princes, along with their sister, Princess Elizavetta born in February 1989, remained in the capital until the Summer of Fire in 1991, when the Queen-Consort and the three children was sent to Dalchen Hall in Sesadana to avoid the recent wave of bombings by the IAW. While in Sesadana, the prince began his education at St. Daniel Academy alongside his brother. In 1994, the Womachian offensive into Halburton and Valvexana came to an end. With the lapse in Womachian attacks for most of the year, the king brought his family back to Antople in May 1994. The prince continued his education at Travalle Children's Academy until 1997, when he and the Crown Prince started to be taught by a private teacher in the palace.
Post-war and marriage
With the war's end in July 2001, Valvexia began its road to recovery and reconciliation. During this time, the 16-year old Prince Charel started to date actress Klarise Allo. Allo, who was a year older than the prince, was an advocate of the Woshonan people, who were often caught in the crossfires during the war. Over the course of their relationship, the prince also became a supporter of the Woshonan Home Movement, culmunating in the creation of the province of Woshon in 2003. After attending higher education at the Royal University, the prince and Allo married on 19 January 2006 in a grand ceremony at St. Luca Cathedral. Upon marriage, the prince inherited Salwood, the ancestral seat of House of Halburten, along with the title of Lord of Salwood. Their son, Andreus Johan, was born at Salwood on 7 October 2006.
Ascension
In October 2015, a member of the Royal Household Staff noticed that the king had a persistent cough over the past few months and suggested that he should go see the doctors. According to his brother, he thought it was nothing more than a common cold or the flu, brought on by frigid weather of Late-Autumn Valvexia. However a CT scan confirmed that a tumor had formed on his right lung. King Andreus, who was an avid smoker of cigarettes and cigars in his youth, did not want the news about his cancer diagnosis to get out, so most treatment and testing was confined to Travalle. Prince Charel, the then Duke of Aire, heard rumors about his brother's illness, but was assured by the king himself that he was fine.
At a Christmas Eve dinner, King Andreus announced to the Duke of Aire and other Royal Family members that he had cancer, following up with a public announcement to the rest of Valvexia during the 2016 New Years Day Address. The Duke of Aire took over most public duties, effectively becoming regent in all but name until 16 February 2016, where he was officially confirmed as Crown Prince-Regent by the Grand Council. By April, the king's health was steadily declining despite the best doctors in Valvexia working with him. King Andreus's last public appearance would come on 6 June 2016 during the Royal Charter Day Parade, riding alongside the Duke of Aire in the royal carriage. The king would relocate to Moundgarden Hall on the outskirts of Antople on the suggestion of his doctors, where he would remain for the remainder of his reign.
Seeing that he was now unable to perform his duties as monarch and head of the Church of Valvexia due to increasing treatment, King Andreus notified the Duke of Aire on 16 July that he would be abdicating the following month. He assured the Duke that the Grand Minister, Marten Addersen ve Tollo, would help ensure a smooth transition, as most of the Grand Ministry was already notified of the decision. On 15 August at 7:30 am, the Duke of Aire announced at a press conference that the king was abdicating, effective at midnight. With his ascension, along with confirmation by the council and the church, the Duke assumed the throne as king Charel V. The coronation, which traditionally occurs six months following ascension, was pushed up by two months out of fear of his brother's passing. Fortunately, his brother was able to see his coronation from his residence at Moundgarden Hall.
