Armenia[a], officially the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic[b], is a constituent republic of the Soviet Union in Transcaucasia. It is the smallest union republic by both population and area, and the most densely populated. It borders Kartvelia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east[c], Iran to the south, and Turkey to the west. Its capital and largest city, Yerevan, is the republic's primate city, with nearly a third of the population living there. Other cities of note include Leninakan, Kirovakan and Ejmiatsin.
