The United Commonwealths of Gagium, usually referred to as Gagium, is a country comprising of 14 commonwealths, 7 territories, and various possessions. With a population of more than 177 million people, Gagium. is among the world's most populous nations. The vast majority of the country is located contiguously in Stratea, with the Prussian-Polish Commonwealth being the nation's only land neighbor.
Ancient groups of loosely-connected hunter-gatherer peoples had lived in the area that encompasses modern-day Gagium since 20,000 years ago, with a variety of native civilizations and empires existing up to the 16th century. Colonization primarily from TBD and to a lesser extent TBD began in the 16th century, but didn't pick up until the later half of the 17th century. After the Gagium War of Independence was won against TBD, the nation was nearly globally recognized in 1822 as Confederal Gagium. After widespread struggle under the Confederal government, a large portion of the current constitution was ratified in 1835 with the birth of the Kingdom and Commonwealths of Gagium.
Through several years of conquest and purchasing of colonial land, Gagium had acquired significant portions of northern CONTINENT by 1854. A brief power struggle between King Dimitri Rodier (Who was widely seen as incompetent) and republican factions of the government resulted in the monarchy being weakened with the constitutional amendment of 1867, followed by the ban of slavery later the same year.
