The Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Mizialand are the unified armed forces of Mizialand. It consists of the Ground Forces, Air and Air Defence Forces, Naval Forces, and Queen's Guard. They guarantee the preservation of the independence and sovereignty of the state and the integrity of its land area, territorial waters and airspace and its constitutional order. The armed forces of Mizialand act under the authority of the Ministry of Defence (earlier known as the Ministry of War and Defence).
The Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces is the Prime Minister of Mizialand. Prior to 2016 when Mizialand became a constitutional monarchy, Her Majesty's brother His Royal Highness Pierre Vincent was the Commander in Chief, when he resigned from his position, effectively transferring the authority to the newly elected Prime Minister. However, his crown continues to mount the royal lion on the coat of arms of the Armed Forces.
The Armed Forces have been involved in two major conflicts since their formation in 1912 namely, the Mizia Civil War of 1912-1919 and the Great Astyrian War. Since 2017, Mizialand has hosted two training centres beside regularly contributing to the Foreign Legion of the Imperion Coalition.
History
The first branch of the armed forces to be established was the 'Queen's Guard' that replaced the erstwhile 'National Guard' of the Sanchez Dynasty. The Queen's Guard was established by HRH Guérin Vincent, on 15th December 1911, as a direct opposing force to declining Sanchez Dynasty. It comprised volunteers and revolutionaries (both men and women) as well as mutineers of the Sanchez army and together with other the armies of the other 54 French noble governors, under the leadership of HRH, successfully defeated the Sanchez dynasty. The Queen's Guard then replaced the 'National Guard', disbanded the Sanchez Army following which Guérin Vincent reorganised the Mizia Armed Forces. On 24th December 1912, when Dutch and German feudal coalition announced their secession from the Kingdom, levée en masse(conscription) of all able bodied men between 18 and 25 years was introduced by a Royal Decree.
After the Civil War, the Armed Forces were reorganized in their present form. Unlike the earlier Sanchez dynasty, where each feudatory maintained their own armed forces, the reorganized Armed Forces were maintained by Her Majesty's Government. The Royal Decree 873 of 1920 gave HRH power to appoint 'any person she seems fit (including herself)' as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. For most of its history, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces had been the reigning queens themselves, making Mizialand one of the few countries in the world to have women lead the armed forces. In 1988, HRH Sophie Vincent appointed His Royal Highness Pierre Vincent as the Commander in Chief. The Constitution of 2016 mandates the Prime Minister, the head of the government to be the Commander in Chief, as an effort to reduce the monarchy's involvement in the armed forces.
After economic liberalization of 1960s, Mizialand has shifted from being a net producer to net importer of the equipment of Armed Forces. Domestic production is met by state owned Mastrex as well as numerous private suppliers while other Imperion Coalition members particularly the Commoner Empire, are the main foreign suppliers.
Great Astyrian War is the only international conflict in which the Armed Forces have been involved. The Kingdom joined the Imperion Coalition in 2016 and has since then hosted two training centres for its Foreign Legion. It also sends legionnaires as a part of the Foreign Legion.
Standard Equipment
While certain equipment (such as fighter jets for the airforce) may be specific in their respective branch of the armed forces, the following are standard issues in all branches:
The AR Scorpion is the new service rifle of the Armed Forces
The LSW Mare used as a squad automatic weapon
All of the aforementioned equipment is sourced from Wolf Armaments
Mizia Ground Forces
The Mizia Ground Forces, officially known as Armée royale, Koninklijk leger, and Königliche Armee is the land component of the armed forces. Under the Sanchez dynasty, the Army had a feudal organization where the monarch would call upon army controlled by nobles during the times of conflict. The Army underwent reorganization during the Civil War of 1912-1919.
The current army has around 150,00 active troops with reserve of around 60,000.
The main tasks of the Ground Forces include:
- Maintaining the readiness of troops to repel aggression.
- Armed defense of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Mizialand.
- Protection and defense of state and military facilities.
- Defense of the state border by land and air.
- Peacekeeping missions.
Regional Commands
Currently, the ground forces include four regional commands:
- Regional Command "Heleventia" (HQ Euskania)
- Regional Command "East" (HQ Dakota Boers)
- Regional Command "West" (HQ Le Harve)
- Regional Command "South" (HQ Thomasville)
These commands were all established in 2003.
