Olivier Saunders was a Zamastanian politician, lawyer, and businessman who served as the 17th President of Zamastan, succeeding Alistair Griffiths in the 1904 election and serving one term from 1904 to 1906, losing his reelection bid to Thomas Dubois. He was a member of the Christian Union Party, the only member of the party to ever be elected President. Saunders raised protective tariffs to boost American industry, and rejected an expansionary monetary policy of free silver, keeping the nation on a gold standard. His administration's most notable accomplishment was the annexation of Gangkou from Yuan in the 1905 Treaty of Tiaking, which had been formalized following the Griffiths administration's efforts to back the Emperor of Yuan during the Yellow Flag Rebellion.
Economic growth was a key distinction of Saunders' administration, and as an innovator of Zamastanian interventionism and pro-business sentiment, Saunders is generally ranked above average in popularity rankings of Zamastanian presidents despite his single two-year term. Saunders was 44 years old when he was elected, but lived for another 42 years after his presidency during which time he worked as a lawyer and a lobbyist. He died in 1948 at the age of 88.
