Julío Pires Carvalho (Born April 3 1940) is a Paretian lawyer, politician, and statesman who served as Premier of Paretia from 1990 to 1999. He also is the founder of the Social Democrats of Paretia and served twice as it's leader, from 1976 to 1981, then 1985 to 1999. He is known for leading Paretia's entrance into the Euclean Community during the 1990s.

For most of his career, Pires served as lead of the Social Democrats. Early on he was a member of the Euclean Paretian Social Democratic Party, he later founded the Social Democratic Unity Party, which united with other left-wing parties to form the Social Democrats. He would take a hiatus from leadership from 1981 to 1985, with his two deputies serving as leaders during this time, the SD would be a member of the coalition government of Manuela Morais. He would return in 1985, and lead the party to grow in the 80's greatly. In 1990 Pires won election with the largest majority by a single party in Paretian history.

During his Premiership he would enact social reforms as well as beginning of adoption of the Euclo currency in Paretia's economy. He would enact the 1991 EC referendum which saw the yes vote win and Paretia to begin joining the EC. He would win again in the 1993 election with an even bigger majority, he would then see Paretia officially join the EC in 1995. He would also enact many labour reforms during his second term mainly. He would again win in the 1996 Paretian election, although they lost seats, they still had a majority. During his third term he began to enact infrastructure and economic reform mainly, he would also enact another referendum in 1998, this time to legalize gay marriage in all of Paretia, which succeeded, though narrowly. He would decide in 1999 to end his Premiership and return to private life, he would choose his deputy Eduardo de Santa Maria to succeed him as a candidate in the 1999 election, which they won, although with needing to form a coalition to continue running the government.

He would still maintain a presense in politicians throughout the early 21st century, appearing at Social Democrat rallies and giving political commentary on television. Today he lives retired from politics but still will aide the leaders of the Social Democrats to this day.
