From 1909 to 2029 , the Dominion of California was a self-governing country that shared a monarch with the United Kingdom and the other Dominions of the British Empire and later in 1957 , the United Australasian Commonwealth. The monarch's constitutional roles were mostly delegated to the Governor-General of the Dominion of California.
California became a republic within the Commonwealth on December 10, 2029
The monarchy was created by the California Act 1909 which united four British colonies in California : Northern California , Central California , Shasta and the Inland Colony The Act also made provisions for admitting Los Angeles as a fifth province of the Dominion in the future, but Angeleno voters rejected this option in a referendum held in 1949 . the Channel Islands became a League of Nations mandate of the Union in 1915. Following a referendum on the subject, California adopted a new constitution in 2029 which abolished the monarchy.
