The Imperial City of Shaz, or Shaz City, is the Capital of and fourth largest city within the Shazbotdom Empire.

History

The Imperial Capital was the 3rd settlement to ever be established within the Empire, settled c. 1458CE. At the time, the seat of the Government was Joletig, renamed later on to Joliet. It wasn't until the 1692, shortly after the navies of the British Empire attampted to foribly annex the town through a failed invasion of Jolethig, in which the British torched multiple building before being driven from the shores by the Shazonite Protection Authority. Using hit and run tactics and ambushes to thin our the British ranks to the point in which her majesty's navy decided to leae and it wasn't worth it to continue to pressure the Shazonite people into submission.
With that, the Shazonite Authority began the construction of a new captial facility in what was to become the new seat of Government for the Shazonite People. Over the next 100 years, with the capital being moved to the new Settlement, which was first named Mewanate, but renamed Shaz City after the very first Emperor, Shaz Bot. THe location of the capital has moved 7 times throughout it's timeframe in Shaz City, and taller and taller buildings continued to be constructed, continually changing the landscape of the city throughout the years. Now, home to 8 of the 20 tallest skyscrapers in the Empire, it has become the shining beacon for the Empire.

Geography

Located inland at the foot of Mt. Generisarath, the Imperial Capital has some of the most beautiful views of the countryside in the central region of the Imperial mainland. It's view of the snow covered peaks of the mountain on one side to the green grass of the valley's on the other gives the capital it's uniqueness. Every year, climbers try to scale the south-face of Mt. Generisarath but many fail to do so and return to the base of the mountain face after making it less than halfway up the mountain. While the capital does not sit on any major bodies of water, it does have one of the major rivers in the Empire running through the city and is one of the major thoroughfares for shipping through the heart of the Empire.

Government

The Imperial City of Shaz is the capital and the largest city of the Empire of Shaz, a vast and ancient realm that spans across continents and oceans. The city is located on the banks of the River Hemrades, which flows from the majestic Mount Generisarath in the north to the fertile plains near the City of Berwin to the west. The city is divided into four districts: the Imperial District, where the Emperor and his court reside in the splendid Imperial Palace; the Noble District, where the wealthy and powerful nobles live in luxurious mansions and estates; the Merchant District, where the bustling trade and commerce take place in the markets and shops; and the Common District, where the majority of the population lives in modest houses and apartments.
The city government of Shaz is composed of two branches: the Executive and the Legislative. The Executive branch is headed by the Mayor, who is directly elected by the citizens of the city for a term of four years. The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the city, responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws passed by the Council of Shaz, managing the city’s budget and finances, appointing and supervising the heads of various city departments and agencies, and representing the city in external affairs. The Mayor also has the power to veto any legislation passed by the Council, subject to a two-thirds override by the Council.
The Legislative branch is represented by the Council of Shaz, which is a unicameral body consisting of 23 aldermen, who are elected by wards for a term of four years. The Council is the lawmaking body of the city, responsible for enacting ordinances, resolutions, and regulations that govern various aspects of the city’s life, such as public safety, health, education, transportation, environment, culture, and recreation. The Council also has the power to approve or reject the Mayor’s appointments, ratify or reject his contracts and agreements, authorize or deny his borrowing and spending proposals, and conduct investigations and oversight on his administration. The Council elects one of its members as the President of the Council, who presides over its meetings and sets its agenda.

Crime

Crime is almost nonexistent within the Imperial Captial of Shaz, which is a place where monarchy rules. On a daily basis, very few murders, rapes, or any other Capital offences occur within the Capital on a regular basis. By far and away, white collar crime is the most burdensome crime within the Imperial Capital, but thanks to the extensive training of the police force, these criminals are usually caught every time.

The media and news industry within the Imperial Capital is not without its challenges. Journalists often face pressure from political and corporate interests, which can impact the objectivity and accuracy of news reporting. Additionally, the advent of social media has given rise to citizen journalism, creating a new dynamic in the media landscape.

The Imperial Capital of Shaz City is home to the largest underground rail system in the Empire. With more than 40 routes and covering nearly the entirety of the city, one doesn't really need a vehicle to get around the city. Citizens can walk out the front door of their houses in the residential neighborhoods, go to the corner and descend the stairs 65 feet underground to catch the underground rail and take it straight into the city. Most motor vehicles in the city are either rideshares, cabs, or people who prefer to drive their own vehicles into the city. The city government spends roughly B$1.2 Million a year to maintain the infrastructure of the public transportation system.
