Empire of Evil (Besmenian: Reich des Bösen) is a 1990 historical drama film, directed and produced by Helmut Rommel. He and the historian Dieter Greif wrote the screenplay for the film together.
In terms of box office earnings, Empire of Evil was Rommel's most successful film. The film won the 1991 Besmenian Film Awards in the categories Best Film, Best Director and Best Music.
Plot
The film tells the complete history of the Besmenian Empire in its 45 years of existence. It begins with Karl Ochsenbein's seizure of power on October 21, 1921 and ends with the end of the West Besmenian Revolution and the collapse of the fascist regime of the empire on June 7, 1966. The film also portrays the relationship with East Besmenia, the economic problems in the late 50s and the life of the population in the empire.
