The Commonwealth Guard, also called the National Guard or Provincial Guard, is a subordinate service of the Commonwealth Federal Army and serves as a gendarmerie and rapid mobilization reserve. In peacetime, it's nearly 400,000 members serve as a police force on provincial highways and as a response force during hostage or other highly volatile situations. During wartime, it is expanded to serve as a defense against possible invasion, tasked with manning fortifications and other defensive positions.
