Sydalon (Alalian: Sidaln) is the capital of Sydalon, a special diocese (named Capitale), the County of Sydalon. Sydalon also serves as the administrative headquarters of the Order of Saint Joseph. With 432,892 residents, it is the country's second-most populous city, and nearly 650,000 in its urban area. Sydalon is located on the eastern portion of the country, 25 kilometers from the Periclean Sea, and sits along the banks of the Sydon River, from which it derives it's name. The city is often referred to as Civitas Sancti (The Holy City) or Civitas Christi (City of Christ).
The city's history spans over two millennia and is widely regarded as a major Christian holy site. Originally founded as a small village, Sydalon served as a Latin legionary outpost following the final Latin-Aradian War. The city grew in prominence due to its role in early Christian history. The holiness of Sydalon in Christianity is reinforced due to Jesus's preaching and subsequent crucifixion in the city. It remained under Latin control until the collapse and retraction of the Latin Empire in the 10th century, where it fell under control of native states. The city began to take its modern form during the Crusading era, where Belisarian Catholic crusaders established a series of crusader holdings and crusader kingdoms.

The Sydalon City Council is the chief legislative body of the city government, and is composed of 25 elected members and an appointed mayor, who serves a term of 6 years. The current mayor is Desiderius Aglukark is in his second term, and was first appointed by King Jordan IX in 2001. Members of city council are considered part-time legislators, all members holding regular full-time jobs, with limited salaries for governmental work. While a part-time legislature, seats are highly coveted and often considered a key entry point for individuals wishing to earn a Senate seat. As a result of this, political factions in the city council are especially strong due to the competitive nature of local elections.
