2023–24 Førstenliga |
The Førstenliga or Foerstenliga ("first division"), known officially as the TOPBET® Førstenliga for sponsorship purposes, is the top professional association football league in Scovern and the highest level on the Scovernois men's football league system. It consists of 18 teams, and is typically ranked amongst the top football leagues in the world.
The Førstenliga was first played in 1937, making it the oldest continuously-running football league in Euclea. The inaugural 1937–38 season was contested by only six teams, but by the 1950–51 season the league had expanded to the 18 teams that it keeps to this today. Clubs play each other once at home and once away from home, for a total of 34 games played per team, per season. The Førstenliga operates a direct promotion/relegation system with the second-tier Andensliga. The bottom three tams in the Førstenliga are relegated, while the top three in the Andensliga are promoted for the following season.
The league has typically been dominated by the Rimso-based Gamst 1919 FFK and the South Vestelia-based Heum FK, who have 25 and 20 titles respectively. Historically, IM from Mosfell were considered one of the world's best teams in the 1970s, and won the Coupe Eucléenne twice in 1976–77 and 1978–79, and remain the most continentally-decorated club in Scovern. The most recent season was won by Gamst.
