Kartvelia (Kartvelian: საქართველო, romanized: Sakartvelo) officially the Kartvelian Soviet Socialist Republic and commonly referred to as Georgia, is a constituent republic of the Soviet Union in Transcaucasia. It borders Russia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east, Armenia and Turkey to the south, and the Black Sea to the west. Its largest city and capital is Tbilisi, while other notable cities include Batumi, Kutaisi and Rustavi.
