The Æsthurlav Armed Forces are the military forces of Æsthurlavaj. The URA Armed Forces are the third largest military force by number of personnel in Tyran.
Though originally founded by the Iron Kingdom in 1086 CE after royal unification, the armed forces of Æsthurlavaj have undergone significant changes in the centuries since, with several regime changes necessitating new thought process and reorganization. Its current form was pioneered in 1953 after the Great War and the political face of it settled in 1991 after the fall of the Futurists who had ruled the Republikk for decades with a mailed fist. Its proximity to rival neighbors of near parity strength has always necessitated a large military force, but the depths to which it is wound into Æsthurlav society and culture means it goes beyond a mere fighting force. The military police are also the civic police, the corps of engineering work on infrastructure and roads, the fire department is the military fire brigade etc. It was once claimed by an Acrean observer that "Æsthurlavaj is not as much a state with an army, as an army with a state."
