Variants
Leontas 2M0: Also known as the Leontas 1-2000, this was a prototype created by combining a lengthened Leontas 1 chassis to what would later become the Leontas 2M1 turret. Only two were ever built. Leontas 2M1: The first production variant, entering service in 1995. Initial production variants had the older LPA-74M2 guns, but they were all eventually replaced with the LPA-96 by 1998. Leontas 2M2: Upgraded version that entered service in 2010. Features the new OSP-30 sight for the gunner, a new hydropneumatic suspension, and an upgraded LPA-96M1 gun. Additionally, it also features a composite armour modules in the front part of the sideskirts, to provide additional protection for the driver. Leontas 2M2 EAS: The Leontas 2M2 EAS, entering service in 2015, is an upgrade optimised specifically for urban warfare, and is fitted with the EAS upgrade package ( EAS stands for Exoplismos Astikiou Polemou, Urban Warfare Equipment). The EAS package includes a "Aspis" applique composite armour package on the sides of the turret and hull, an infantry telephone on the back of the hull, a commander's remote weapons station, and improved close-in all-around survailance via several cameras mounted around the tank. The tank also has the provisions to mount a bulldozer blade as well as the "Thyreos" hard-kill active protection system. Leontas 2M3: Modernisation programme launched in 2018. Inlcudes an "Aspis" applique composite armour package for the sides of the tank, an additional wedge-shaped, spaced armour module for the turret front and sides. Additionally, a commander's remote weapon station was added, as well as a new AOSA-24 independent commander's sight.
