Variants

ZV-21A: The low-rate initial production prototypes evaluated from 1991 to 1993. 14 were manufactured and carried out various tests.

ZV-21B: Mass-produced utility variant aimed for the carriage of troops, equipment and supplies, within service in the Army and Marine Corps. Later production units and Marine Corps units have been upgraded with further electronic equipment and other countermeasures to aid in the assault transport role.

ZE-21B: AEW&C derivative based on the mass-produced ZV-21B. Carrying three AESA radars mounted on a triangular radome system, it was initially aimed for service aboard Greater Eastern Union Navy aircraft carriers, replacing aging ZE-20 Overseer units and was introduced into service in 1999.
