The Battle of Tonghae (15 June - 30 June 1940) was the first battle undertaken by the ZANAC forces in Joyonghea and the first inland battle following the landings at Samcheok Beach, the other being the Battle of Taebaek. Following the link-up of the 2nd New Akiba Division with the first Joyonghean pockets inland, Major General Edward Samegawa moved his troops south of the beachheads with the intention of securing an initial ground to take the Ulchin Causeway.

New Akibander forces were the first to arrive at the scene of Tonghae. Quenminese resistance was heavy but despite it, Lucis Commonwealth forces, along with Joyonghean forces managed to enter the town and engage with the Quenminese in a bitter 10 day street-by-street fighting.
