The 2S81 Basilisk is a self-propelled 203 mm howitzer designed and developed by Tormavkovo Mozhaev Military Design Bureau and Borkov Armaments Industries for the Stasnovan Armed Forces. It is part of the Titan Universal Combat Platform Project. It is intendended to be the successor of older Self-Propelled Guns in Stasnovan Service.
Development and Design
The SKA-203 was designed to operate along and eventually replace the older Self-Propelled Guns in Stasnovan Service. It is also a part of the Stasnovan Titan Universal Combat Platfrom project which is intended to be tha basis for most future Stasnovan Armored Vehicles.
It was decided to use a 203 mm Howitzer instead of the usual 155 mm or 152 mm guns used on other designs, something that significantly increases to the firepower delivered by the 2S81 when compared to other, foreign SPGs.
The 2S81's standard equipment consists of a semi-automatic laying system , an automatic loader, an automated fire control system, an NBC protection system, passive night vision device for the driver, a wading kit, a dozer blade, a smoke generator and 81mm smoke grenade launchers, an intercom system and a 16 kW generator.
The SKG-14SK ordnance of the 2S81 can fire the following types of ammunition, among others: HE (25.7 km), HEAT-FS, HE-BB (28.9 km), HERA (36 km), smoke, chemical, tactical nuclear, illumination and cargo (ICM). A 203 mm version laser-guided round “Krasnopol” (of the 9K25 system) can also be launched, as well as the shorter "Krasnopol-M” which fits into the automatic loader.
